Sound card for pc360 & quick question

Thread Starter
My second pair of pc360s went bad as the mic stopped working. So I am sending them back. I use the headset for 70% gaming / 30% music.

In the meantime, I use the cheapest headset I had around which uses a usb. I am impressed with the difference. Why? What I am doing wrong?
At least for 2 years now I have been with the 360s with two different onboard drivers (mobo in sig) and/or an asus xonar dgx. Why is it that I was pleasantly surprised when I used the low end headset picking up highs and clarity that did not know existed?

Now on to the advice:
The asus xonar dgx is pci which means that it does not fit to my pci express mobo, and I cannot use it. What sound card would you suggest?
If I don't get a replacement for the pc360s, I am thinking of the AD700. What other headset or headphones/mic clipon combos should I look for a similar price range?

I prefer to spend as little as possible realizing that I will prob hit £200...

It is really hard to say. Cheap headphones tend to have a lot of treble and are fairly bass and mid light.

If you are older than 18 then your ability to hear high frequencies start to fade away. So your ears could be bad enough where they happen to balance out the cheap headphones and make them sound good. That is one theory.

Another theory would suggest that you have really bad onboard audio and that you need a much better sound solution.

If you need a PCI e card, then I suggest you buy a Creative SBX sound card.

DT990
And the headset mod

AD700 is discontinued so availability can be pretty bad.
As for soundcard, SBZ OEM is pretty cheap in UK.

Right! Thanks for helping out guys.

I did buy the dt990 and the sound card as well. As for mic, I bought the standard zalman one since I could not find the one you suggested.

When I get the pc360s I will probably sell them.

Thanks and rep'd
