My understanding is the solder will only be on Haswell-E, and TIM is being used on the regular refresh processors. Which is why motherboard manufacturers are releasing boards that support de-lidded processors. They come with a special bracket to hold them in the socket after you pop the top off.

Might be worth looking at since you have a custom water loop. You could get an insane OC out of a good chip going that route.

I think my best bet is grab a 4770k now and wait two years to replace for something truly better..

What do you guys think??
