Would anyone say this sounds like a decent set up:
Denon AVR-E300 5.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B7X2OV2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Pioneer SP-BS22-LR Andrew Jones Designed Bookshelf Loudspeakers http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008NCD2LG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Pioneer SW-8MK2 Andrew Jones Designed 100-Watt Powered Subwoofer http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008NCD2PC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

And just setting it up in 2.1 for now

Keep in mind this set up will be in a smallish office/bedroom for now but will be moved to a dedicated office of unknown size sometime in the next few years. Current room is about 15x20 with high ceilings. Not sure if that really matters but I'm just trying to get the most with possible room for improvement in the future.

This seems like too much for occassional use especially when you say you're not an audiophile.

Anyway, you'd still need a better sound card otherwise you can spend $3000 on a sound system and still have crap quality.

Well I do like the possibility of upgrading to full surround sometime in the future and possibly using the receiver for a TV and other components as well. It would be used on a nearly daily basis. So would I need to add a soundcard to this set up also because the receiver should be able to take an optical signal from the mobo or I could run HDMI through the receiver and then into the primary monitor on my PC.

Well in the case of optical audio you should be fine with the on-board audio chip.
