Windows update fails

Thread Starter
I recently did a fresh install of windows 7 on my new ssd. When I shut down it takes about 25 min to install updates then when I reboot I goes to install updates again but just hangs at 0%. Hangs there for about 10 min then before failing and reverts the changes. I found the standalone updater and ran that and re tried. Same problem still. Any headway you guys might be able to offer? Was installed on sig rig with a fresh win 7 sp1 disk

How much free space? Windows Updates and Restore Points can eat it up pretty fast.

Try the "Disk Cleanup" utility to remove some junk before the update process if space is low.

You might want to try installing updates one by one...and try to find out if it's a specific patch that fails, or not.

How would I go about getting them installed indivially?

Have you not noticed the checkbox by each update? It's rather self-explanatory once you notice it...

I may be completely barking up the wrong tree here but as no one else suggested it yet I'll throw this in.. I had windows updates fail multiple times one time because my overclock was not 100% stable although I was fine in Prime no program crashes errors etc at all, went back to stock and it worked, added a notch of V after and happy days.

I have not seen the check boxed but I'll dig around tonight and keep my eyes peeled for them

An alternative is to use a 3rd party update down-loader such as this one.

This isn't your fault, it's Windows' fault. Many other people, including myself have had this issue, and many other issues with windows updates. In this case, just view the updates that it is trying to install, and right click and hide update. You're not going to get them to install no matter how hard you try, so don't worry about installing them.

I also had a problem where I was getting an error message every time I would try to install WinRAR, or run Nexus Mod Manager (For skyrim, oblivion, etc.) that said 'Ordinal 459 could not be found in dynamic link library'. I looked on their knowledge base and found many other people having the same problem, and some had solutions that fixed it for them, but I tried them all and nothing worked, so I ended up having to just reinstall windows, and this time turn updating off. Despite having updating off, Windows still has installed some updates. I just don't get it, but so far I haven't had any problems.
