How to update bios for Ivy-E

Thread Starter
I believe the Asus Rampage Gene IV ive just bought is on too old a bios to support Ivy-E, 4960X.
But I have no idea what version the Bios is and if the Bios flashback will work with all that .ROM to .CAP conversion etc...

Any idea what i should do?

My CPU and DRAM LEDs are lit from power on instantly and code is 00.

You can follow this guide:

http://event.asus.com/2012/mb/usb_bios_flashback_guide/

Another guy bought a Rampage IV Formula for his 4930k and had issues like you. The USB flash didn't work for him, so he had to buy a bios chip to get going.

If the BIOS flashbak does not work, you either need a new BIOS chip from ASUS containing a pre-flashed up to date BIOS, or try a friends CPU to use for flashing purposes.

I do have a 3960x, but i dont want to remove it out my system because the original H80i TIM application is so good lol. Also thats a lot of work to take apart the lian li.

Maybe i will email Asus for a bios chip?

If i do the bios flashback methods, i will have to remove the CPU first right? I cant even find a USB stick rolleyes.gif

Ok so im assuming its still a ROM bios.
Have i understood this right
Remove CPU
Use BIOS Flashback to flash the BIOS-CAP Converter ROM
Use BIOS Flashback to flash the latest BIOS
Install CPU

Correct?

The ROG light blinks a couple of times and i can see the USB light flashing, then it just quits, what next?
Try flashing the CAP?

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?37525-R4F-Debug-00-Red-CPU_LED&s=9812c10d18a909505c48eac668e4f2de

However, unlike the updates, you can NOT convert with flash BIOS update using only a power supply. Why? Because the system needs to reboot twice in order for the entire conversion process to work properly.

Damn it! You need a CPU to do the conversion, thats useless.

Edit:
I tried flashing v1404 Bios which is ROM, but that also did the same thing, what does that mean?
I have named the file as R4G.ROM in a FAT32 USB.
