Sensible card for 1440P

Thread Starter
Okay I am officially looking for a sensible card to drive my 1440P monitor at 96hz. I pretty much only play BF4 and some other FPS games. Budget I would say is max $400. Not afraid of getting used either.

What can you recommend me?

At $400, get a used r9 290. On par with a gtx 780 and has 4gb of vram. If you get lucky you might even get one that can be unlocked to a 290x.

There are tons for sale now that the mining craze is over, a quick sample from the OCN market:

290x for $410 and 290 for $330 (reference)

290x+warranty for $380 (reference)

290 for $395 (Windforce)

I second this. Furthermore, the wider 512bit bus will help as you scale up in resolutions. Especially if you decide to go above 1440p at some point.

I third this biggrin.gif The R9 290 or 290x ( I like the 290x more cause MOAR POWA ;D) are very nice cards with a good price ratio. You dont make a mistake if you buy one. But I would prefer one with a custom cooler. Like asus or saphire. The reference cooler get pretty loud and hot.

Kinda what I have been thinking all along. Now the question is, in a SFF case, should I go reference design or partner HSF?

Most likely not, just got the 1440P panel. Not gonna venture into those waters for a loooong time.

That is tough, blowers are better for tiny cases but the AMD stock cooler is garbage and loud. I would still say aftermarket cooler if possible, unless you don't want to overclock and don't mind a jet engine in your case.

This is what concerns me, I wont be OCing alot, but I do want a quiet GPU.

All cards get loud when playing any graphically intentive games unfortunately frown.gif. The windforce 3x isn't that much better to me since it tends to recycle the hot air back into the card because of the triangle cool technology(corners exhaust to the sides of the case and the center one onto the motherboard.) Your best bet would be watercooling the cards for quietness on all loads.
