Here is the CPU part in the slide.

For its clock rate it isn't bad.

Maybe...if it wasn't 32MB small. Even the 4770K has 128MB of eSRAM-like memory on die.

Granted eSRAM was added to help the slower DDR3 so it was a last moment type thing but MS really screwed up with how much they put on. 64 to 128MB would have been much Much MUCH better!!!

It is always possible that they could have done better on the chip, but the fault doesn't go to the chip "just being an AMD" chip.

^^^ Nailed it.

For real this forum. Anyone played infamous? That game is one of the best and the image quality match a pc game. With such an open world and so many physics no doubt a 2ghz cpu is the main bottleneck for them. And they still work with the optimizations. And its the first year of consoles and we get that kind of quality. Imagine in 4-5 years

Theres a server board from asrock that comes with a low clocked 8 core atom. On heavy multithreaded tasks, it performs near an E3 1230, and obviously has better IPC than jaguar. Obviously the chip is not made for gaming, but a special chip could have been made just like with this jaguar APU, but at a higher price most likely.

The Jaguar core was chosen for its size and its relative performance to Steamroller.

---
Two Jaguar cores (2 x 3.1 mm²) are much more dense than one Steamroller module (1 x 29.47 mm²)

29.47 ÷ 6.2 = 4.75x

---
Sony and Microsoft had two choices;
eight Jaguar cores (52.4 mm² (eight cores + L2))
or
four Steamroller cores (58.8 mm² (four cores + L2))

A Jaguar core has a near the same performance to one Steamroller core. Jaguar also can scale better in MT than Steamroller do to having four cores connected to one unified L2 cache per CU.

one Jaguar core @ 1.6 GHz ≅ one Steamroller core @ 1.8 GHz.
