I've found it interesting that we're seeing all these PS4 and Xbox One releases running below 1080p. I have a 5800K with half the shader cores and I even manage to run several AAA titles @ 1080p, low-med settings @ 30+FPS. Is this CPU bottleneck the explanation for this? Or are game developers making games with Med/High quality graphics and toning down the frame rate intentionally?

When I heard the specs of the Xbox One and PS4, I didn't think either would have a single problem playing most games @ full 1080p from day one. With the Xbox One being on par with a 7790 and the PS4 being on par with the 7850...

that's like a (wildly approximate) ~512x increase in load, not 8x
The architecture will be changed but the Instruction Set Architecture will be the same.

Xbox One -> 2 triangles times 16 pixels equals 32 pixels per clock => 853 MHz times 32 pixels = 27,296 Megapixels per clock

For example even though the Xbox One can actually output more megapixels than the Playstation 4, it has a huge ROP bottleneck.

We will have better; high pixel triangles, 16 pixels/triangle per second -> 32 pixels/triangle per second -> etc
We will have better; rasterizer per triangles -> 1 triangle to 1 rasterizer -> 64 triangles to 1 rasterizer -> etc.

Yes, but the PS4 gpu has 18 computer units while the XONE has only 12. And while on the numbers the XONE GPU is slighlty "faster" for the 53 additional MHz, in practical terms, the PS4's GPU is faster.

For the given bandwidth requirements; the Xbox One's GPU can actually use all of its GFlops. The Playstation 4 at most can only use ~2/3rds which places it right next to the Xbox One. Also, the ESRAM can output frames faster than the GDDR5 memory bus in the PS4.

Reality disagrees with you only when a dev forces parity is the XB1 right next to the PS4

Which have been rarely connected to a TV until recent years.
