Getting 280x is a better choice.

here we go again

i,d go for a r290 - this chart shows max but not min, reason being battlefield is well ok and been optimized better, but when another game comes along 1080p is still a rezzy to be reckoned with thumb.gif

Um.. I don't think that chart is showing Max. I think it shows average, because that 71 fps for the 7970 (72 for the 280x he is looking at) is about what I average on the ultra preset at 1080p, and the straight up preset has 4x MSAA if I remember right, not the 2x they list.

Also keep in mind he only has $300 to work with. I doubt you will get a 290 for that that hasn't been abused in a mining rig.

Did you not read the thread? doh.gif

He is getting a brand new 280x for less than the cost of that regular 280.

Edit: Anyway, OP, back to what I was saying about the FPS.. I took this screenshot with my overlay up in the corner, game is on ultra running the mantle api. You would probably actually get more FPS in the same spot with a 280x on mantle, seeing as the 280x was originally designed with mantle in mind, my 7970ghz was not. Also keep in mind that alot of maps run better than Flood Zone, especially the ones from expansions.
Click For Screenshot (Click to show)
Right click and open image in new tab for full resolution. While it says D3D11 I AM running mantle. I don't think afterburner has a separate tag for mantle programmed in yet, even in this latest beta.
