possible locked cpu

I'm curious as to if a cpu from a factory comp could lock the amount of voltage it will take?

I recently built a computer and reused the Amd Athlon x4 640 from my hp. I do plan on upgrading to a fx8350. I'm just seeing how far I can push the old processer.

Whatever I do the cpu voltage is locked. Whether I change it in the bios or in Amd overdrive. In the bios the value I set it retained but the actual voltage does not reflect a change. In AOD the cpu volt slider is grayed out.

I have an Asus m5a99x evo r2.0 mobo

Try a different BIOS.

So try an older BIOS, or even a beta BIOS.

I over clocked with the bios that came on the board. Loaded the latest and tried that, reverted back to what came loaded on the board. Then back to the latest. Lol. Ive been round and round with no luck.

I don't see a beta in the bios lists.

I'm starting the think I'm going to have to settle til I get another CPU.
