Motherboard causing Over clocking Issue? - Page 2

Because they're not using mediocre MOSFETs that ASRock uses on Extreme4. I added few other boards in the previous post. Besides those Asus boards were $180-220 boards sold at much cheaper prices whereas E4 is still sold close to what it was sold 2 years ago.

Thanks for your help. I'm going to stick with the ASRock for now since it already shipped. If I have any issues I'll rma it and get the Asus. I hope this stabilizes my OC.

Just as a follow up, I installed the new motherboard and have been testing it for the past 2 days. From what I can see now everything seems fixed. No more random fps drops, no BSODs, and overall gaming just feels smoother. Also I was able to overclock to 4.8ghz (vcore 1.4v) when I could barely get 4.4ghz before. I ran prime95 for 10 hours with no issues, so Im guessing its stable.

thumb.gif but you'll need to get familiar with ASRock voltage issues. 1.4v is a bit high by itself, and with false voltage reporting it's probably dangerously high.

Thanks for the info. Is this a issue on every asrock or most? Is there any way to see the actual voltage without buying a multimeter?

Most of their Z77 line up. Without multimeter you can just guess based on the numbers other people posted in that thread.

I have seen some scary false readings fromASRock Z77 boards, and I would HIGHLY recommend getting an inexpensive DMM. I used the Z77 Extreme4 + 3570K + 2x4GB Samsung 30nm DDR3 @ 2400 9-9-11-25 1T for the basis of a general media/family room PC for a friend.
At 4.5Ghz, the BIOS would read 1.315v but my Fluke DMM would read around1.425v!

Goi ng by other people's boards is just as inaccurate, as the boards can be off by any amount...

I guess I will. I dropped it down to 4.7 and vcore is 1. 38 max. Wouldn't my temps be very high if it's pushing over 1.4v on air? Prime95 temps never go above 82c and game temps are under 66c max. It's just as likely if cpuz I reporting more than its actually getting.
