c2q q6600 -> 4770k worth upgrading now or wait till haswell refresh

so as the title says is it worth for me to upgrade or should i wait for haswell refresh and possibly buy 8 core cpu if its at max 500~ pound price tag ,

edit: i would be buying this friday so im wondering is it worth it to buy this week timeframe etc

You'd see a massive difference coming from a Q6600. The refresh won't be much better than the current Haswell, unless you wait for Haswell extreme. I'd go for it. Just my opinion smile.gif

The haswell refresh won't come until the end of 2014. Like Bradley said, you'll see massive improvements if you switch to a 4770k now. I don't think haswell refresh will be more than 15% faster than the current haswell gen. It's all up to you, if your Q6600 still runs your things ok, then you might want to wait a few more months, otherwise go for the 4770k now!

EDIT; Beautiful dog Bradley, is it yours ? tongue.gif

EDIT 2; Well it seems that haswell refresh is around the corner after all!

imo wait 1 more month since your computer still works. The haswell refresh is almost here like I think 2 more weeks in May. What is 1 more month since you have been having the computer over 3 years biggrin.gif

Get a nice new z97 board with new haswell refresh 2-4 weeks. Supposedly the z97 boards will support broadwell as well unlike the current z87 boards.

i have been dying using my q6600 even have it over clocked to 3.4 while running it 24/7
i really have wanted to upgrade but i just was wondering will there really be huge regret if i would buy it now and it comes out in 1-2months
as i did see intel realeasing haswell refresh for orders but that still means its gona take 1month at the least probably which is a hell of a long time for me as anything i do is extremely delayed

Haswell refresh is rumored to come during computex which starts June 2nd. Id just wait, you already spent lots of time on that q6600 you can wait the extra month or two.

If you've come all this way with the Q6600, you can easily wait it out.

Do you need to upgrade? Or just want to upgrade?
The 1150 socket I'm pretty sure is at the end of its life cycle, meaning next Intel CPU's will probably use a different socket. Actually I was wrong it is the Chipset. Broadwell will use 1150. If you don't need to upgrade you could just wait and then upgrade to a whole new platform. Just so you don't feel like you upgraded now and then suddenly the newest shiny toy is released and you can't use it smile.gif

http://wccftech.com/intel-broadwell-k-series-desktop-processors-launch-q4-2014-lga-1150-socket/

With all that said upgrading to Sandy, Ivy, or Haswell now will give you fantastic improvements over the Q6600, huge performance increase thumb.gif
I guess just depends on how you look at your tech versus what is on the horizon.

My 3770k does everything I could ever ask of it thumb.gif
