Anyway, Skyrim only uses two threads to run the game. Please watch Task Manager while playing, and see if the CPU usage of "Skyrim.exe" is at 50%. Also, you need something like MSI Afterburner, or EVGA Precision X to monitor GPU usage. My 680 with the 4096x4096 texture pack doesn't hit 90%+ GPU usage. You should hit that 50% CPU limit before the 100% GPU usage.
EDIT: It may be "Skyrim.exe" or "TESV.exe"

I am not sure how to keep the task manager window up while playing Skyrim at the same time. The game wants to stay at full screen. I can only view them only one at a time with Alt + Tab.

I will check out EVGA Precision X since that is the manufacturer for my GPU.

A decent ENB will push that gpu usage into the upper limits. Using quite a few texture mods and Seasons of Skyrim ENB, my gpu can get up to 89% usage in some outdoor areas.

I downloaded EVGA Precision X and encountered the same problem of viewing both Skyrim and Precision X at the same time. I had to switch screens with Alt + Tab. The GPU Power % reached to at least 54 while Skyrim was running but I need to see Precison X data while I transitioning to different parts of the map, where the FPS drops occur.

My mistake, I'm used to dual monitors tongue.gif
First thing is to check the GPU Usage after a gaming session. See what the maximum reading was. In case you didn't know, you can double click on the graph and it will pop up a new one with more information. If that doesn't hit 100% and you are below 60FPS, then it is a CPU bottleneck.

I played 30-40 minutes awhile ago goofing off in Riverwood, and Precision X reported Power % at a max of 84 and GPU usage at 91. I checked my FPS and at times it went between 50-60 FPS with some minor stuttering. There was a major stutter which dropped my FPS to 30 while exploring at Riverwood.

So does that confirm that the CPU is bottlenecking Skyrim?

Skyrim is one of the odd games that does shadows on the CPU. (just fyi)

If you have good fps out in the open and low fps in cities then it's very likely to be a CPU bottleneck. Markarth completely destroyed my fps when i still played skyrim.

Do you have any other demanding mods other than ENB RealVision? Also do you get slowdowns only inside cities or only in landscape areas?
Also make sure steam automatic update is enabled. You might have an older version of the game, oldest version is very CPU hog, while it is still a hog to some extent but still no way like it was back when it released.

I also have the "Recommended mods" & "Essential Mods" on the author's page on RealVision ENB and a few other graphics/texture mods. I know a few of them such as Lush Trees & Grass and Cinematic Fires are very demanding mods.

AFAIK I noticed the slowdowns while exploring the landscape. I do not notice as many major slowdowns while in town or inside buildings, though a recent major slowdown occurred right near the elevated bridge where the boy and the dog reside (no idea of their names since I only playing for testing purposes so I am trying to avoid spoilers with the volume muted).

Then it is the video card that doesn't have enough juice to push 60 fps IMO. Landscapes don't require much CPU power but require more GPU, as long as you are OK inside the cities then it is definitely not the processor.
I still don't know why your fps drop to 30 fps inside Riverwoods, I think that is too low for such a system. I am using RealVision ENB and Flora Overhaul, I also think I installed Lush Trees but I am not sure. I don't have that Cinematic Fires mod but my fps doesn't drop to 30 fps inside Riverwood. Do you have mods specificity for Riverwood also do you use project parallax mod?

Hmm, that is interesting with EVGA Precision X not reporting the card was at 100% usage at any point of my gaming session.Sometimes it dips to around 56-57 FPS inside the cities briefly but it normally comes back to 60 shortly. Most of the time it stays around 60.1 FPS in the landscapes but it does go low to around 52-53 at some points when I open the ENB window in-game.

That only happened once and I am not sure what happened. The only other low occurrences were around 45-48 FPS in previous tests days ago. Hopefully it was nothing serious.
