Please help me choose a 480mm rad for low rpm fan usage.

As the title implies, I'm in the market to get some new radiators for a new project.
I've looked at some round-ups from Martin and Bundy, and they give conflicting results between the two choices I've narrowed my search down to.
Martins results imply that the Alphacool UT60/Monsta rads are best at 600rpm, and Bundy's imply that the XSPC RX V3 rads are best at these rpm's-
(I would prefer to not go with the Monsta rads though, as cool as they are, I would like a bit of room to work in, in the bottom bay of a 900D, my hands are pretty large).

Have any of you had experience with either of these rads? I've used an original V1 XSPC RX480, but I was running much higher rpm fans on it,
And the only experience with Alphacool rads I've had are with a ST30 120mm, a Monsta 120mm and a XT45 180mmX3.

Also another important question, which is a whole other kettle of fish, what are the most appropriate fans for use at 600rpm for these rads?
I would love to get some GT AP-15's, but I need 11, and they are rather expensive now and hard to come by, so I don't think that's ever going to happen.
What would you guys also suggest for that issue?

The alphacool rads are better. Please note though that at such a low speed, the thickness of the rad doesn't make much diference; i.e. the performance of the UT45 is almost identical to the Monsta.
As for the fans, try AP 14s they are still pretty easy to come by. TBH though I wouldn't worry too much about the fans, at 600rpms any halfway decent fan is going to be almost completely silent anyways.

I realize as the rad gets thicker the performance increase is pretty insignificant, I just kind of feel that a case like a 900D needs its space to be used up almost as much as possible (Though is there not also a slight increase in flow rate of a thicker rad?).
Also with the fan subject, is there sort of a guide I can read that shows how much static pressure is achieved by fans spinning at such a low rpm? I was thinking of just going with push in this build (need space to route solid acrylic tubing etc..).

Martin did testing on this a while back. And what he found was that thicker rads only helped at higher fans speeds. I don't have the whole thing in front of me unfortunately, but basically at sub 1000rpms there is essentially no difference at all between the different thickness rads. It is only as you increase the speed of the fans that you start to notice differences between them (with obviously the thicker rads performing better). Since you are going to be running at 600 rpms there is no performance difference between 45 and 60 and 80.

So in theory, I could possibly gain slightly more performance from going with some XT45 480mm rads and run fans in push/pull at low rpm's for the added aitflow without too much of an increase in sound? And have the whole foot print be not much larger than running UT60's in push...

Edit: One thing though, does the FPI increase with the thinner rads with Alphacools line?..

Exactly.

I don't believe so, but I do not know. Perhaps someone else knows for sure.

Ah thanks for the clarification, so now my project has gone up a bit in costs, with the addition of getting double the amount of fans tongue.gif I'm thinking of getting 20 Noiseblocker PL-2's since I've heard good things about them, and their price for performance ratio is pretty nice, I may have considered e-loops, but I've heard of problems occurring with mounting orientation and the fan blades hitting rad fins, I also liked the specs of the Noctua NF-F12's at low rpm's, but their price is simply too high for purchasing 20 of them (plus they are a bit of an eye-sore..).
Thank you for your input and help on the matter, you've definitely earned some rep for that! thumb.gif
