What FPS Should I Play?

Thread Starter
I was a huge CoD:MW (CoD4) fan when it came out, and I still find myself coming back to it any time I look for a new FPS to play.

I have tried most of the latest CoD games, and none of them seem to tickle my fancy as that old game did.

I have tried other games, like the new Battlefields, Red Orchestra II, and Warface and they just don't seem to be for me. Warface seemed close, and interesting, but the game just doesn't run fluidly for my tastes, and the fact that I can't turn off the severe console Depth of Field effect drives me nuts!

Here are my biggest points for what I typically enjoy in a FPS.

-Realistic setting with real weapons set in the last 50 years.
-Primarily a pure shooter, I am not a big fan of vehicle warfare (IE: Battlefield)
-Small maps, I tend to prefer smaller maps over larger ones. Primarily I don't want everything to turn into a long range camp happy sniper fight. I want fast paced combat where even with only 4-5 people you won't go terribly long with out seeing someone.
-Low Character Hit Point/High Weapon Damage (I don't think it should take 4-6 rounds from a rifle to incapacitate someone)
-Fluid game play, the game engine just has to run smoothly, and I am not talking about FPS here
-PC tweaking support / Not a complete console port. If it is a console port I at least need to be able to turn of the DoF, and Motion Blur effects, and it better have direct mouse input!
-Dedicated Servers are much preferred, but not required if the "cloud" option works decently

Anyone have any ideas?

it doesn't really fit your criteria but the most fun i ever had in fps games online:

-Left 4 Dead 2 Versus Mode
-Battlefield 3

In battlefield if you don't like vehicles thers lots of matches with no vehicles.

it sounds like Counterstrike GO would be more up your alley

You pretty much want a COD type of game that isn't COD. You can try CS but I am not sure how appealing you will find it (different gameplay plus it doesn't even include ADS). Failing that, BF3 has a DLC dedicated to Close Quarters combat plus a few more maps that work nicely for CQ TDM (Noshahr Canals, Kharg Island , Talah Market etc.) but the biggest part of the community has moved over to BF4, and the new game has shunned CQ (although the next DLC will feature urban warfare,so there is a chance for some CQ goodness).

America's Army: Proving Grounds

AA:PG is the latest iteration of the America's Army series.

It's free to play.
It only uses actual weapons found in todays Army.
There is no respawn so teamwork is critical.

Perhaps you should take a look at Insurgency

I'm going to also have to say CS:GO. Otherwise, sidestepping a little bit, Left 4 Dead 2 is also a ton of fun, very high paced, realistic weapons (though relatively few to choose from) and just an all round great game.

Try Red Orchestra 2 on Team Deathmatch. The maps are much smaller and vehicles are absent from this mode. It seems to me the game you're asking for is basically this but in a newer setting.

Thanks guys,

I added Insurgency to my wish list, and am going to see if it goes on a Steam Sale any time soon.

Maybe I will give CS:GO another shot. When I first tried it when it came out it seems like the same old Counter Strike with updated graphics so I was put off.

I am also going to give Red Orchestra II another try, I had tried Rising Storm but didn't put much time into it.

That would be my first choice. Give Blacklight:Retribution a try. It's free.
