R9 280 / 280X / 290 / 290X Questions /w Cooling Questions.

So to begin with I have been watching allot of videos and such trying to figure out just which card/s I want to get.

Facts:
I have 850W Corsair Gold Rated PSI
I am currently running...
Core i7 2600k (Plan to Overclock to at-least 4.8ghz)
16gb Corsair 1600 Vengeance
Twin 560ti in Crossfire running... 3x HP Compaq LA2306x Monitors

I currently have an H60 that i will be taking off the i7 - This I can hook up to the GPU's via the Kraken H10 ($30)

I have questions..

Considering I plan to cool them with the H10

1. How big of a difference will there be between the 280/290 and their respective "X" Series?
2. How big if a difference will there be between "Reference" & "Non-Reference"
3. Is that difference bases of the PCB?
4. Which PCB Cards will work with the Kraken?
5. Is there a better choice then the Kraken? (Considering I have the H60 Already)

Considering I do not often upgrade my video cards (I went from 9800Pro > 8800GT > 560ti > 2x560ti)(Free 560ti Donated)

Considering I play MOSTLY MMO / RTS / MOBA Games. smile.gif

1. Suggestions between 280/290/X Series?
2. Which Brand?
3. Crossfire or No?
4. If I Crossfire, I know using the H60 on DUAL Cards will reduce effectiveness, will it still be better then Air?

I am looking @ a current "Video Card" Budget of..

Prefer ~$500-600 USD
Can squeeze ~$700 USD
MAX -$800 USD

Maybe an option for all three budget options and possible performance increase between them.

If you think I have missed something here, please inform me as I know I have not though about everything

EDITED Budget.

1) There is a frame or two at most between X and non X editions.

2) The difference between Ref and non Ref depends on the non Ref your looking at. Often, non Ref come equiped with better coolers and higher quality components on the PCB. For most non Ref's, it's just a cooler change.

3) So yeah, there can be minor to huge PCB differences in both size and component class.

4) Check the compatibility list with the Kraken. If I had to choose though, I'd say it's 95% likely that Ref cards, and maybe one or two non Ref cards will support Kraken.

5) Only better choice is to build a custom WC loop.

1) I'd suggest the AMD R9 290 hands down!

2) Any brand that has the best warranty. I went with GIGABYTE because they have a huge RMA centre in the UK.

3) Crossfire is great, but most games are badly coded on the CPU, which sometimes makes dual GPU's pointless as they can only supply little gain for many titles.

4) Not sure how it would reduce effectiveness if you used a H60 on each card. If anything, both cards would benefit from being cooler.

If you want the best single GPU performing card, the best option is Nvidia GTX 780 Ti
