Tiamat 7.1, have a read if you're thinking about getting a set..

Hey all

Just wanted to share a little info that may save some of the not-so-elite to PC audio people such as myself. If you're thinking about purchasing a Tiamat 7.1 here are some things to consider that I have discovered after buying these for myself.

1. If you only play MMORPG such as wow that do NOT support 5.1 or 7.1 audio, DO NOT buy these head phones.

2. If you play FPS games that DO support 5.1 and 7.1 formats, AND you have a sound card that also supports 5.1 and 7.1, then go ahead and pick these bad boys up.

The reason for this is simply because the Tiamat 7.1 is an analog headset that does not make use of "virtual surround sound" technology. Rather it has 5 separate drivers (speakers) per can that actually produce the surround sound. So here in lies the problem for games that do not use a 5.1 or 7.1 format. If you try to play these games with the Tiamats set to 7.1 and your sound card set to anything other then stereo setting your headphone will sound like total crap, like your iphone speaker sounds better, this is because the sound card is pumping a stereo signal to the surround sound speakers, you will have no bass and things will be all around terrible. The way around this is to set your sound card to stereo and set your Tiamats to 2.1. If you do that then you basically have a $200 dollar pair of stereo headphones,...Not what you wanted I'm sure.

If you like to play MMORPG's and also a few FPS games like BF4 then I would recommend picking yourself up a decent set of 7.1 "VIRTUAL" surround headphones. It will actually say VIRTUAL on the box. You will save yourself money and heartache in the end I promise.

Anyway, just thought I'd share this as I found little help on this subject when I was dealing with it so hopefully my findings will help someone else along the way.

Cheers all.

IMO high quality 200 dollar stereo headphones + virtual surround software >>> Tiamat or any gaming headsets. I have heard Tiamat and my mate who owned Tiamat couple years switched to DT990s said they are a LOT better. Build quality is also pathetic on Tiamat.
