[Official] AMD R9 295X2 Owners Club - Page 887

Hi everyone,

I've just bought two of these cards with custom watercooling and I'm having some issues that I'd really appreciate some advice about.

The short of it is that I can only get one R9 295x2 to work at a time, whereas the one that isn't connected to a monitor at boot is simply not recognised by anything in Windows (neither device manager, GPU-Z or Afterburner etc).

I've confirmed both cards work perfectly well - multiple boots with the monitor connected to each card separately allows me to use them individually without problems, so this rules out an issue with the cards, PCI-e ports or motherboard.

There is also no problem with the power supply - I actually thought this was the case to begin with and have test three of them already.

I have tried numerous reinstallations of the drivers and AMD software - I've even been as far as booting using Linux and upgrading my much-loved Win7 to Win10 in the hopes that the non-monitor-connected card would be recognised, to no avail.

Does anyone have any experience with the same issue?

Gday Guys

Reporting in. Some may remember I bought a 2nd hand 295x2 and slapped on a factory refurbished Koolance WB on it. Totally cheaped out set up.

The card is still going great. Performs well and get 60fpsish on most titles @ 4k.
Truly can't wait for dx12 implementation in games.
Memory pooling will give this card another great kick along.

My only gripe would be single GPU performance on War Thunder. I still get 60fps @ 4k but no AA.
Wouldn't be a prob on a 32" but looks stunning beautiful full AA on 40" though 30fps kinda sucks.
But that's the vagaries of multi GPU I suppose, and hopefully will be a thing of the past.

I might add I haven't clocked the card. Can any one suggest a modest GPU/Mem OC to start with in Afterburner?

Anyone playing a UE4 game title, you can now use Xfire using the "Paragon" Xfire profile. I am currently using it with "Squad".

Does anyone know of a site that revisits benchmarking?
I am interested in improvements in the 295x2 and 295x2/290x tri fire results now compared to initial release benches.

Cheers Bob

Curious about your guys' frame rates. I have a brand new i7 with 32g of memory. I just bought a new Asus monitor. So, now I am running it in 2560x1440 at 144hz and my 2nd monitor at 11080p (just for internet and TS). While playing Black Desert online, in crowded areas I am dropping to 25-30 fps.

Running watercooling setup so it isn't a heat issue.

Hey guys, 'sup? in CCC, I can always opt to enable or disable to crossfire but since I installed Crimson drivers v 16.6.1, the crossfire option isn't there anymore. I tried using DDU and AMD's uninstall utility to no avail. I haven't tried reformatting or resetting Win 10 64 bit since it's kind of hassle to do it... Running Heaven benchmark, I usually got 2.5k.. now it's just around 1.5k although in 3D Mark, I get the performance expected from it as a dual GPU. GPU-Z says Crossfire is enabled. Weird. Unfortunately, most of the games in my library are affected. My 295x performs like a potato 290x... and per this thread: https://community.amd.com/message/2735207#comment-2735207

According to Matt,
Quote:
The R9 295x2 and the 7990 do not have the CrossFire toggle, it applies to the Radeon Pro Duo only. To disable CrossFire on these GPUs you must use a game profile and set AMD CrossFire mode to disabled.

Hi guys, couldn't find what I was looking for in this long thread. I have 2x XFX 295x2 cards and they experience thermal throttling. Are there any BIOSes that allow raising the inbuilt throttle limit?

No, the throttle limit is to protect the AIO units, not the GPU itself.

ROM has a GPU temp limit, if reached GPU is throttled. This is shown as target GPU temp in Overdrive page.

Then there is PowerLimit in ROM, this limits GPU Amps/Watts, when reaching limit GPU is throttled. In OS when we add PL we increase theses values by the % we apply.

Ref hawaii bios mod thread and you can mod rom as you like, but be aware 295X2 has 2 roms, so each need modding/flashing.

I have an XFX Radeon R9 295X2 "Core Edition" that also throttles at stock speeds, in Crysis 3. When it is not throttling for about the first 5 minutes of gameplay Crysis 3 runs at a very smooth 60 FPS on high (could do very high/ultra at a sacrifice of fps but still be playable but I prefer FPS) all in 4k.

Idling at ~46/47C, it then very quickly it reaches 74c and throttles to ~850mhz. It kind of disgusts me how AMD can get away with selling something that does not perform as advertised at STOCK. I have no other GPUs, just a 6700k (also stock, no throttling here!) with a Cooler Master 212 EVO in push/pull, and this 295X2. I am going to try to put it's rad in push/pull but I dont think there is enough room at the top of the case, and from what I've read it only reduces temps by ~2C.

It's in a Cooler Master Cosmos II, with literally a dozen case fans, many of them high performance Yate Loon/Scythe Ultra Kaze, all of these running at at least 70% speed or more.

Intake: 2 fans at front, 2 fans on the door (blowing onto the 295x2), additional two fans blowing onto the lower HDD bays as well.
Exhaust: 3 fans at top, 1 fan on rear.

The GPU itself has two Yate Loon 120mm high speeds (intake) blowing onto it. The rad vents out the top because the hoses are not long enough for any other configuration, except rear exhaust which I imagine would be worse than top exhaust.

Luckily I only paid $600 for this on a Newegg blowout sale (in 2015) although it will probably be my last AMD card considering my old GTX 670 4GB SLI configuration would routinely run at 100c at load at stock (reference design Zotacs) and those cards are still in perfect working order.

Apparently there is no way to raise the temperature limit via BIOS modding or anything? Is there a BIOS mod to make the fans/pumps run at 100%? It's very disappointing that the temperature envelope is so low, compared to 290Xs

Sigh, At least it doesn't throttle in Counter Strike 1.6!

You never said what fans your using on the rad and if you are using Ultra Kazes then you shouldn't have throttling considering a single SP120 will cool the 295x2 enough so it doesn't get anywhere near throttling temps and as I posted above the temp limit is to prevent damage to the AIO unit, not the GPU itself.

You can mod a BIOS for it (the pump always runs at 100%) but the easiest way is just to plug the fan into your motherboard or a fan controller and run it that way (like most of us)

Side note, managed to score an EK block for my 295x2 for $35 USD, was advertised with a backplate but none showed up rolleyes.gif
