Well my tenure with the 295x2 is nearly over. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of AMD's next rumored dual Gpu iteration and started saving.

I usually try the duals from both AMD and Nvidia, but since Nvidia now continually let down, I have decided to try a GTX1080 to have a look at what they have been up to.

Was wondering if anyone else has tried a 1080 and what the general fps experience has been compared to the 295x2. Better, poorer or up and down depending on games.

Highlight of the 295x2 for me is any game @ 4k that has a crossfire profile. Just awesomeness with 50 - 60+ fps 4k in any title. It's still a monster.
In particular SQUAD which is still in dev and not fully optimized, but am pulling anywhere from high 40's to 80 fps @ 4k. I am using the "paragon" profile for x-fire.
Only low light was the loss to xfire with War Thunder, which hopefully will be sorted out using the 1080.

Any thoughts on the specs of a new Dual GPU? I am thinking single Gpu will be on par or slightly better than the 1080 performance with 8gb HBM.
Double that up in a package and it will be a can of whoop ass. Hoping the pricing will be 1.5 that of a 1080 sli set up. If it is priced anything like the Pro Duo maybe a bit iffy for me.

I am a little peeved with AMD with Vulkan and DX12 atm. The sell point is Multi GPU support built into games (no more profiles), also with the ability of memory pooling.
It's just not happening. Can't see it happening unless AMD put small multi gpu/apu in consoles. Patience is not on of my virtues. lol

Hang loose guys.

P.S. Hey VegaSecureA, what is that keyboard? Is that one of those "Paradise" boards?

I have two MSI 1070 Gaming X for 4k and i'm simply amazed by SLI scaling and perfect smoothness. Scaling is about 90% in optimized games, whole system draws just 300W from the wall and GPUs are totally silent. Single 1080 can be a little bit to short for 4k on max settings, but it's great buy as well, especially Zotac Extrme Amp, ive seen OC results between reference 1080 and Titan XP. Nvidia 1000 cards are very easy to OC thx to EVGA PrecisionX. It has auto-OC test that finds highest stable clocks for every voltage level, it can be ran overnight.
Overall i have 2 GTX 1070, 2 GTX 470 (Sapphire) and 2 480 (XFX) and must say that Nvidia overtook AMD by years in every cathegory (except price). Just stay away from Gigabyte, it was my initaial buy and i returned it because of bad quality and design.

300w total system draw? I can't believe that when the 1070 is around 150-160w alone, What else is in your system?

And sorry but it's kinda silly to compare a 1070/1080 to the 470/480 since they are completely different price and performance brackets.

Can someone confirm 100% that Sapphire 295x2 has dual BIOS?
Alas i botched my flash by loading BIOS from first switch setting and flashed it to second.
Surprisingly my modification of mem straps seems to work in both switch settings (!)
And that makes me wonder if this card really has 2x2 BIOSes, or it is just a dummy, service switch or whatever.
I've read that this switch changes order of GPUS, but not for me, at least not after how i flashed it... :|

I'm meant overall technological advancement, like computing power per Watt, easyness of configuration and adjustment. Price is just effect of this advancement.
I'll measure Wattage again in the evening, maybe i confused something, but those cards draw amazingly little power anyway.

all those points are up for debate in any which way, both sides have their merits and downfalls, but I cannot agree that price should continually raise just because the newest generation is faster.

That train of thought leads to mid range GPUs costing a small fortune and PC gaming becoming more and more expensive and eventually driving people away from it and to consoles which no-one wants.

Overall price of computing power falls constantly. This peculiar scenario is effect of little concurence - there are just two GPU makers and one struggles to keep up the pace.

300w total system wattage I don't think so.
