Nvidia Surround - Display connection issues

Okay, so on my GTX780 I have 4 monitors hooked up all the time. I have three monitors on my desk, two hooked up via DVI and one via a DisplayPort to DVI cable. Then I have my HDTV on the other side of my room connected to the HDMI port via a 35ft HDMI cable. The TV is never enabled as a monitor when I'm at my desk, only the three monitors I'm trying to use in Surround (I use DisplayFusion profiles to disable the three monitors and enable the TV whenever I want to watch a movie). However, simply having the TV plugged into the HDMI port casuses this stupid error:

"Why is that error stupid?" you may be asking, "just use the HDMI port like it says, and then it will work" you might want to tell me. That's one option, I suppose I could buy a Displayport to HDMI cable for the TV and use an HDMI to DVI for the third surround monitor, however what bothers me is if that I simply unplug my Samsung TV from the HDMI port, it will enable Surround on these three monitors without any issue. I don't see why I should have to buy new cables, or dig around behind my PC to unplug the TV just to use Surround (thus messing up my DisplayFusion profiles, which takes a bunch of time to set up again), when Surround works just fine if I simply unplug the TV. There must be some way to get around this and just force it to use the three monitors I want to use, right? I don't want to enable the "additional display" at all while Surround is enabled, so I don't see why I should be limited to specific ports.

Sorry to say but I really think this is just a software limitation with Nvidia surround. Looking at it from the engineer's standpoint, it's most likely that if you have 4 monitors/displays plugged in that you will want to use them all at once, rather than disable 1 or 3 combo.

As far as ports go, it shouldn't matter which ones are plugged in for surround or extra, as they all work in any combination with 2D surround.

Yeah, cause like I said, if I just unplug the TV from the HDMI port, everything works just fine in surround with my current setup.

I guess I just have to drop $20 on a DP to HDMI adapter and an HDMI to DVI cable simply because Nvidia would rather I use HDMI for Surround than Displayport...
