There are a couple of reasons why the US Dollar is used outside the US, but the US taxes being low has absolutely nothing to do with it.

The RRP in the US would include shipping and tax(is tax included in the 399 price?) costs by your own logic. Taking those into account, there is still a gross slight mismatch in RRP globally. Hence why the 2.8 billion dollars amount is inaccurate.
Am I to understand that for every Euro I give to Sony, they actually receive 1 USD?

Yeah, pretty much all electronics in the EU are $1 = €1. Import duties, subsidizing EU H&S certifications, etc. etc.
Behold, the wonders of the EU!

7 mils ps4's sold while 5 mils xbone's. Thought the difference was bigger.
It is. 7 million SOLD to customers for Sony. 5 million units SHIPPED to retailers for MS. Not SOLD. MS playing games and wont reveal the actual number sold out of those 5 million units. Which tells me. Lots of them are just sitting at retail. While PS4 is consistently moving stock weekly. Also keep in mind. As I said before. This is with MS throwing in their biggest game in for free Titanfall. And a $50 price cut for the system. They still could not beat Sony's hardware sales.

I have no idea what went through MS' head in this generation. Sony nailed it this generation for the time being and I honestly can not see it change in MS' favor.

I saw an article not too long ago about AMD reported making profit off of the deal. But I saw nothing about them making more than Sony. But its not hard to see that since they do business with all 3 console makers now.

Not sure if it can be trusted, but I saw it here: -

Yeah. I was gonna buy the ps4 but it's now almost 70$ more with tax. Absolutely ridiculous. One of the main selling points was the fact it's cheaper than the Xbox.

$399 (RRP for the 500 GB PS4) x 7,000,000 = $2,793,000,000 ($2.793 billion), or $2.8 billion if you round up.

The price of a PS4 varies from country to country. For example in the UK a PS4 is £350 which is $589 and if you live in Brazil a PS4 is $1,850.

The only reason I may buy a PS4 is because of Destiny. That of which I'm leaning my money on strongly. My PC gets top priority for games. lol

The prices vary because of taxes and local expenses. Taxes and local expenses don't affect the amount Sony gets, and since the US has some of the lowest taxes in the world as well being one of the cheapest countries in the world to run a business, the closest you are going to get to finding out how much Sony got for the consoles they sold is using the RRP for the US times 7 million. That is also why pretty much every business uses USD to work out what their income is.

The only way you can find out how much they actually got is if Sony themselves reveal what their gross is, but they aren't going to do that any time soon.
