USB keyboard doesn't work

Thread Starter
Guys, I'm having a very unusual problem... I've been messing around with an old ASRock K7VT2 mobo running Athlon XP 1800, and I can't get the the system to recognize USB keyboard. BIOS has been already configured for USB devices, and fully optimized (even flashed to latest, 1.30 version), except USB keyboard still doesn't work until you reach Windows environment. Only PS/2 & serial devices seem to be working properly, but according to boot log (start-up sequence), IRQ is given to 4 different USB devices, I'm guessing USB1.1 & USB2.0. IRQs are 3, 5, 10 & 11

This particular board has 6x USB (2.0) connections, and is running 2x 256 DDR1 RAM. I also have to point out that the system is working perfectly normal under Windows, all of the USB ports are working as it should, including the USB keyboard, USB flash drives, etc.

IIRC, that was fairly common back then. Some usb keyboards would work to get into bios and some didnt. I think one time I went thru about usb 8 keyboards to find one that did work, heh. tongue.gif And I think one time I had to use a ps/2 to usb adapter to get one to work. USB back then was in its early days.

Wow, really? I didn't know that, in fact I've been running USB keyboards on much older (Slot-1, BX) systems & never had any problems with USB compatibility mode... But yeah, that would certainly explain a thing or two... Because it's either that, or the board itself is damaged, I just don't understand how it could be damaged in this particular (unique) way, when all of the USB ports still work OK under the Windows.

So you're suggesting that the board doesn't provide correct USB drivers? Should I try flashing the BIOS again? Or, is there a separate chip, memory source for these things?

No, just that the bios doesnt recognize all usb keyboards back then. If you have the latest bios for the board, reflashing wont do anything. They were designed to use ps/2 keyboards while in the bios. If you dont have a ps/2 keyboard, try an adapter.
