Extremely odd issue (on-going for over 6 months)

Hey all, I've been having an extremely frustrating issue with my display drivers crashing. It has pretty much happened at least once a day for the past 6 months. The weird/frustrating part is, after a reboot, the issue disappears completely. Everything is completely stable, hinting that this issue lies with a cold boot.

I've tried everything google has to offer. Fresh drivers, fresh drivers from a fresh Windows (7) install, upgraded to Windows 8.1 (thought it might have been an issue related to Aero). I've also tried all the usual, downclocking, restoring motherboard to optimized defaults, RAM checks prove 100% clear. I think just about the only thing I haven't tried yet would be to switch out the PCI-E slots I'm using to see if it's a problem there, but I doubt it since the cards work 100% stable in extremely high load gaming situations.

There is also no issue with temperatures. Everything is running where it should be and everything tests "stable" where applicable. The only thing I can point to that might have caused this was an Nvidia driver update towards the end of 2013. The problem appeared from nowhere and has stayed since. The specific issue I believe I have is with the TDR, and my GPU's taking too long to respond to a display request.

Here's my related system specs;

Gigabyte Z77x-UP7
i7 3770k
Kingston XMP Beast 16GB (4x4GB)
SLI GTX 670 FTW Sig 2
Corsair AX860i

Unfortunately, I don't have access to any other GPU's that I could switch out.

Google has shown me that this problem is not isolated and more often than not, goes unfixed. It's just so weird that the issue only happens from a cold boot (usually after work in the evening) and disappears completely upon restart. The restarting thing makes this issue almost impossible to fix.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I could think of trying would be to try and boot with only one video card and see if that helps. If it doesn't work then switch for the other card. Then I would put both in but switch the slots. Try to check all slot/card combinations for both single and dual card set ups. At the moment, not sure what else you could try.

I guess it's all that's left to try. I'm at wit's end.

Well give it a try and post results, I'll do what I can to help further if this doesn't show anything.

Maybe some time along the way you had a corrupt file registry or bad file install in the process of updating your drivers..But since you made a clean OS install it should not keep on doing that..
If the above poster's method doesn't prove that there is a faulty card,then try using this guide to do a clean uninstall of your NVIDIA drivers and do a new install..
