Hello all. I am planning a build to be used as an all around workstation and home entertainment setup. This will include a fair amount of gaming and youtube video watching, and also a fair amount of staring at endless code (I am a student). I am planning to go with a single 1080 monitor. I have only the space for a single monitor and have decided on the two on the title. I currently have a matte screen however I am open to trying new things as I have heard many people criticize matte monitors for their dull darks. My main deciding factor has come down to how aesthetically pleasing each monitor is. They function exactly the same, and being a person who highly values aesthetics, this is what the choice will come down to. I am looking for feedback on what the community will be a better looking and performing monitor. I hope I laid out what I plan to do with it well enough. Also glare is not an issue for where I will be using this monitor. Let the feedback commence smile.gif. Oh, below are two links where you all can read basic info on each monitor, along with view pictures.thumb.gif

You don't want either of those monitors. Both use LED PWM Dimming (Side Effects) and the U2312HM uses a very grainy matte coating.

The following monitors are also PWM Free, use IPS panels and cost less than 200$. Use Google or Chrome to translate the reviews.

Acer H226HQL Glossy
Acer S236HLtmjj Glossy. It's a superior version of the H236H
Asus VX239H Matte (it's new and is not widely available yet)
Dell P2314H Matte (goes on sale)

The Asus VS24AH-P (it uses a really high PWM frequency which should not cause issues) costs a little over 200$, is matte and is also very good. =DEAD='s VS24AH Review & PRAD's Review (this version has a height adjustable stand). Use Google or Chrome to translate.

But how noticeable will the pwm flickering be? I have read several review and watched several videos of the acer, and none seem to have mentioned it. Is it because they are just noobs? Thanks for your post, you opened my eyes to tons of new factors that I need to look at when picking a monitor now smile.gif

Depends on individual susceptibility, so no one can determine if you will notice or be effected, however PWM dimming does negatively effect motion performance. The S236H>H236H and the matte monitors I suggested are better than the U2312 anyway.
