Intel 'Broadwell' Official date or still to be announced?

Thread Starter
Hi guys as the title suggests I currently have a Sandy Bridge setup that I purchased in Q1'2011 and it has served me great. However it is still an amazing chip the CPU is over 3 years old to my surprise and was thinking the new Broadwell code named lineup may be a great platform to upgrade to.

I have tried looking for some sort of release time / date but I am getting different information from site to site. I used to be an active member a few years ago on this site and I was up to date with all the intel news. Was just looking for some insight. Will it be suitable to upgrade to Broadwell from Sandy Bridge? I plan to get an I7 to run more applications and I guess future-proof it for the next few years again like Sandy Bridge did for me. The thing is however, I study IT and I'm into all of this stuff. However, over recent years I haven't seen clock speeds rise dramatically or anything. I'm assuming the huge improvements are in the architecture and other areas of the chips?

Just for some clarification before I go out looking on the market. Cheers!

The last I heard from any legitimate source (although I cannot remember what the source was) was that broadwell had been pushed back to 2015.
