AMD most likely can see what Intel is doing to the market. AMD has faced this before in a slightly different form so what is so wrong with AMD being vocal about an issue that they have first hand knowledge about?

Can't wait for Temash SOC's so I can buy a Win 8 tablet. A few weeks ago I played with a few Win 8 tablets and loved them but I refuse to buy Intel thus Atom tablets are out of the question.

Intel should be offering a superior product. They can't. You can't accept the fact that Intel is completely uncompetitive in this market and that even after getting serious about Bay Trail, no one wants to touch it.

The one advantage it has, x86, is mired by Microsoft creating a disaster with Windows.

But you're not grasping the fact that if Intel had a competitive product, it wouldn't have to pay off people to use their products.

You know what it reminds me of? When you dare someone to eat something they don't want to eat, and you offer them money to do it.

By your logic sir Linux should not be allowed to be free because it's "uncompetitive" (wrong usage) ----> anti-competitive (that's the word you're looking for). Start paying the going rate for retail OS linux people your anti-competitive business practices are hurting OSX and Windows!!!

It's actually VERY competitive what they are doing. It's the same thing that Microsoft did to gain ENTRY into the console market. Intel is trying to gain ENTRY into the ARM tablet market. It's not anti-competitive OR uncompetitive at all.

As far as I can see this is Intel doing to the mobile market what AMD does in the x86 market...

Intel is breaking into a market where AMD and Intel are not even on the map. As much as I like AMD,I have feeling this comment was designed to play on past crimes for boardroom posing.

Bingo. Why AMD even cares about a market they aren't involved in sounds like jabbing their competitor from another market just because.

The problem with BT is that it tries to compete with high end ARM but costs much more.

So when intel goes on to solve the platform cost issue it's suddenly anti-competitive...

BT SOC + platform costs to OEMS = too expensive = less design wins

Reduce platform costs = more affordable = more design wins.

That's all that's happening here. And since they're the underdog and small company in this business there's no argument that can be made for forcing competitors out any more than you could make one about AMD trying to force intel out of x86 by cutting prices. Or about AMD forcing NV out of GPUs for offering never settle bundles.

All that's going to happen because of this is that you're going to see more intel based tablets at price points where they previously couldn't have been sold at due to costs. A huge crime and a loss to consumers I know. Just like those never settle games that AMD gives out to their customers. Ruining the market, just setting AMD up to be in a position where they can destroy everything and kill kittens.
I guess you are being cynical. biggrin.gif
Your points on the leading company of the semiconductor league are remarkably revolving on price, as if a leader would only be capable of competition based on price.
BT already is already ahead of ARM in cpu performance metrics, but that is not why it is out of the question. Also, "Cost is not an issue, if the concept has the right feature set", as Nvidia Chief Jen Hsun Huang justly stated in their GTC 2014. "Stand by battery endurance", "multimedia", "Dx 11" are none of the features that Intel unfortunately will not be pronounced for.
I think it is a pity... A company of say, 12.5B each quarter should be more than the sum of its patents, imo.
