MSI z68 GD65 G3 motherboard won't post. I could use some help.

While I wait for the MSI office to open, I'll see if I can get some help here.

I woke up this morning to find my PC had restarted for some reason while I slept. Then I noticed that it was hanging at this screen that normally shows up right before the motherboard logo. This screen has the number 99 in the bottom right and an underscore in the top left. I tried to restart, clear CMOS, removed and replaced the CMOS battery, and even toggled the OC Genie a few times because I was desperate. Nothing looks wrong other than it won't post and I haven't done anything recently that should cause this. I had this happen a couple weeks ago for the first time, but it just started working again after a few restarts.

If you have any idea what may be wrong I would love to hear it! This is driving me up the wall.

If using more than one memory module, remove all modules except for one. Place that module in the preferred DIMM for single channel operation. Try to boot. If you still get error 99, swap modules, repeat test through all memory modules and see if results are the same.

Results are the same. This screen is nothing new BTW. It has always shown up on boot, but normally it continues to the MSI slpashscreen. It is no longer doing that.

Can you explain to me what this screen is trying to tell me?

Wait. I tried again and it worked in slot one this time. And then didn't boot again. Will update when I have progress.

I got it working again. I booted that one time with one DIMM and it failed to boot the next time. Then I tried it with both again in slots 1 and 3 after clearing the CMOS. This booted and let me set up to reboot into Windows. Yay working again! As an engineer though, I would still like to know the root of my problem. This way I can hopefully prevent it in the future.

Since you've got both sticks working now, go ahead and schedule a run of Memtest 86+ overnight. Please post results after you've completed that.
