We can't let fear of the unknown rule our lives.
In my specific case, and a huge amount of people that can relate, I have horrible vision. Now, use my stem cells, clone my eyes with some gene therapy to correct the vision problems I have, replace them... bam! Eye surgery my butt... eye replacement! This goes hand-in-hand with the smart lenses being developed out there as well.

With stem cells, eye cloning may not be needed (unless you down right need new eyes). From what I have read about the cells, they just place them with healthy cells and they copy themselves
to match what the ordinary cells do. From there they are placed to the affected area and, in time, your vision gets better due to the cells overriding the bad ones. It can be this simple and it can also
be very difficult, depends on what needs healing.

take that Google. we don't need your primitive electronic augmented crap .. we can clone our own junk and modify it to make us super mutants

As if the earth wasn't already having enough issues with >7 billion people, now we need to start cloning thumb.gif. We need to stop trying to come up with ways for us to never die and instead come up with better ways for us to enjoy our lives. At the very least, if you plan on not dieing then PLEASE don't have eight kids..

Embryos from skin cells? Really?

That's a pretty major breakthrough if true. Cloning without the need for fetal tissue would be incredible(y scary.) wink.gif

For me the moral line that should not be crossed is literal organ harvesting.

ie. An embryo is cloned from your skin cells. Accelerated growth therapy grows it to young adulthood in a few short years. Its kept sedated the whole time its growing until the organs can be harvested and frozen in your own personal organ bank. To me that'd be like on a longer timescale my parents sedating a twin from birth and when he reachs young adulthood, harvesting his organs and deep freezing them for me in case I need them.

Repugnant to me

On the other hand, if stem cells can be cloned from me and used to grow me a new leg or heart etc in a vat of synthetic amniotic fluid in isolation of the rest of a body, I would have zero issues with that.

I don't believe we'd need to even make a full clone just to make more organs for emergency use when this technology actually sees the light of day and not just in labs.

I, for one, can't wait for this. My eyes are crap compared to what they used to be when I was a kid. Somehow the lenses in my eyes have gotten messed up and now they have different focal points causing immense eye strain adding to the fact that I am already near sighted. I can't see anything clearly or even read decently sized words past 6 feet.

tell that to all the benefit cheats who pop out kids just to get money, a free house and a state pension

In my most-likely uneducated opinion, I think most benefits except for stuff like unemployment and social security should just be gone (there will probably be others that are important too, just that I wrote down the first two to come to mind). If you can't afford to keep yourself afloat then you shouldn't even consider having kids until you can support them well enough to have a good life.
