if that's the case how did they ever have a top tier single gpu card? also can you explain the GTX680 issue/ordeal?

so mid range card binned as high end again? honestly, I can't wait for Maxwell. I need someone desperate to sell their 780ti as cheap as I can get one.

I had a 680 @ 1333 / 7300Mhz for gaming, with 1.21mv
was 40% + faster than my previous 580 @ 920/1840/4200MHz

it was a great chip ...

defects had the price a little high. and very little difference in performance with the GTX 670.
Nvidia would have to do once a GTX 680 as the GTX770, with the ability to push the memories to 8GHz, to still have + performance.
a GK104 @ 1350-1400/8200MHz is a nice little monster.

1st don't believe 28nm

you have more circuits memory management circuits, more l2 cache and an arm chip in same socket- die size - not likely
parts list show same socket size
and you drop power consumption and heat?

sounds like die shrink to me

the source is questionable at best - PC tuning.cz had it at 20nm - now they say 28m, based on a really unknown source and 3dcenter.org post - which get the info from it's forums?
(and goes "supposedly")

the story of 20nm delay was bogus - and if you look for it from TSMC own press releases you'll find the delay was only a few days(in march) and did not affect production or production times
so Semiaccurate story was inaccurate as usual

Furthermore Apple has received 20nm silicon with yields as high as 65%

two more 20nm fabs go online in next couple of months

AMD Is in design phase and will go into production phase this year and then finfet after - - don't believe AMD story posted this week - it's fud
Misinterpretation of what AMD said

all product lines is 28nm right now - it will stay that way
20nm production and release does't preclude that - considering you will not stop producing anything (all other cards will still be produced for awhile)

You have to take into account that Apples processors are tiny, tiny little chips compared to what we're used to in high-end gpus. Also, Apple is using 20nm LPM (low-power mobile), not HP (high-performance). Both TSMC and GloFo has problems with the latter. This article has already been posted in this thread, but I'll do it again. It's a very good read.
Also, regarding 20nm cards from either nvidia or amd, unless they both went the same route as nvidia with GF100, with high-risk wafers and what-not (we know how that turned out), we would have seen atleast some small 20nm products from them to test the process.

I do believe there is only 1 process at TSMC on 20nm - and that's 20nm SOC planar

TSMC went to only 1 process from here on out to simplify the fab/manufacturing process - to get rid of all the hiccups between the different processes

Works fine for Nvidia - because the new GPU's are SOC and they want to move to more efficient silicon -
Don't want to have handhelds that don't eat up power

AMD has an issue because they are less efficient GPU design(meaning they get little performance gain) - so they are either re-working Design for SOC silicon or waiting for 16nm Finfet

680 was based on GK104. Quite a lot here would say that if it isn't GK110, it isn't high end.

Thing is, nVidia charged full price for a GK104 "flagship", and then didn't give us GK110 for a long time. When it did come out, it was the $1000 Titan. We didn't get the 780 or 780ti until much later.

Just you wait, a full Maxwell chip will come soon and cream what AMD has to offer.
