i73770k, having trouble going from 4.4-4.5ghz

Thread Starter
ga-z77x-3dh with an i73770k coole by a hyper 212 evo. At 4.4ghz I'm at 1.310v. Ran prime95 fir the first set of tests which was like 15 minutes are so. This is about how long I ran on each test prior as I worked my way from 4.0 to 4.2 and from 4.2 to 4.4. When I go for 4.5 i bsod when i run prime95. I've increased voltage now up to 1.330 and now about to test 1.335 as 1.330 just bsod'd. Could 4.4 be my limit or am I doing something wrong. I am overclocking the turbo ratio no the cpu clock ratio but i have read that is fine if you prefer to have it clocked normally when idle and I also have the llc on turbo and x.m.p. turned on. turbo power limit in watts is set to 300 and core current in amps is set to 200. Thank you all.

edit to above. my temps at 4.4 and 1.310v are about 85C. before the bsod's at 4.5 its at 90-95. 95 being right now at 1.335 but cpu-z shows 1.356.

The cooler is not that good to handle that kind of voltage and also 1.310v for 4.4 is way too much.

should i drop back to 4.4 and dial the voltage down until its no longer stable at least until I get a better air cooler or watercooling. Also 1.350 and 1.375 too high for 4.5ghz??

Yes keep it at 1.310 for 4.4 and if you are stable try to bring the voltage a notch down.Have you tried any other voltages lower than 1.310 ? because for 4.4 1.25v is supposed to be enough (for most 3770k) BUT again its silicon lottery..

I have not. I had the voltage on auto through 4.3. which cpu-z clocked voltage for 4.3 at 1308. I am about to try to get the voltage lower for 4.4 right now. Prime95 just passed the first round of test for 4.5 ghz. had the voltage in the bios set to 1.345 but with llc(i think thats what is causing voltage jump) cpu-z clocked voltage at 1.368. temps for this were 92,97,98,82 on the respective cores. I think thats too high to do an overnite test but is that voltage too much for 4.5 if I get watercooling or better air cooler? and if the volts are ok is it worth it to buy a new cooler for .1ghz?

well at 4.4ghz I was able to get the voltage down to 1.275. which cpu z shows 1.296 under full load. If i go down to 1..270 in the bios I blue screen on the first set of tests. I know you said 1.25 is goal and 1.310 was way to high for 4.4 but this is better right? and safe I hope. cores max it looks like at 82,85,85,78 respectively. Maybe I just got the short end of the stick in the silicon lottery.

koof have a quick read of this guide I made, I have a 3770k and pretty much same gigabyte motherboard as you.

www.overclock.net/t/1392279/info-intel-3570k-3770k-overclocking-tips/0_40

TL:DR:

Change cpu multi to x40, change vcore to 1.070v which is stock for 3770k. Go into windows an try running Prime95 to stress test it. If you get BSOD/P95 crashes, go into bios and increase the cpu vcore.

Keep doing this until you can do a good long run of prime95 without BSOD/crashing.
