Why can't i replace my EK X2 tube with an X3 tube?

Ive had my old Multi-Option 250 X2 Advanced packed away for awhile since moved to a smaller case for awhile, but now im in a 900D and i really need a big reservoir again to take up some space.

My tube used to have a small crack on it which didn't leak or anything, but it always bothered me, i took it out of storage and now it looks like i got ran over by a truck, pretty much the entire tube is spider cracked, which still doesn't leak, but it looks horrible so im not going to install it like that. My plan was to just order a replacement tube for like $20 but im having a hard time finding one.

Ive found x2 tubes but only the really small ones, my loop would look horrible with a little 60mm tube res it, so thats why i want to at least replace it with another 250mm one or bigger. Ive found X3 tube replacements all over the net, but they all say they will not fit the x2. Why is that? The diameters are the same so i guess EK changed the threading or something to prevent replacements eh? Its really a shame, the EK advanced used to be a really nice looking res, but ive found several threads of their X2's cracking all to pieces (and leaking) for no reason.

There is what im looking at, why does it not fit my reservoir, and can someone help me find one that does?

Primarily because they use a completely different thread design. The X2 tubes are threaded on the inside while X3 tubes are threaded on the outside.

Ek have made the X2 series EOL and have stopped making them. Your only option will finding a second hand tube or a whole new res.

Ok thanks whats what i needed to know, i couldn't find that on any of the spec sheets for products online. Why they would use such a cheap material that cracks under normal use i don't know. I did nothing abnormal to it to cause the original cracking, and certainly letting it sit in the original box in a climate controlled closet shouldn't cause any cracking.

Ive found very few used models, and they want more than im willing to spend. I guess ill just buy this http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_318_998&products_id=37003 though i really liked having the ability to use the fittings on the top from the sides.
