Question about 2400Mhz and 2133Mhz

Im going to upgrade my RAM soon, but i confused with this RAMs sale at amazon. why does 2400 cheaper than 2133? and please tell me the difference.

From what I can see, the DDR3-2400 kit is 1.65V memory while the DDR3-2133 kit is 1.5V. So, I'd get the DDR3-2133 kit.

Probably. Compare 1.35V (low voltage memory) to 1.5V memory.

 

The difference in clock speed is tiny. So, just go with the DDR3-2133 kit and pay the extra $2. The lower voltage will be easier on the IMC of your CPU.

How about if i purchase the 1.65 and keep the dram voltage at 1.5v all the time?

Well, then you'd have to downclock it to whatever it would need to be downclocked to in order to be stable with only 1.5V. That could end up being lower than DDR3-2133, you never know. So, no, it's a bad idea. lol Just spend the $2 more for stable DDR3-2133 at 1.5V.

The 2400MHz kit is only rated to run 2400MHz at 1.65v, so if you ran it at 1.5v you would have to underclock it to 2133 or possibly even lower - just to keep it stable..

The 1.5v RAM will put less of a strain on your IMC, and will have less of an effect on your overclock

I would advise against the Vengeance line, because Corsair uses the cheapest possible IC's that they can get to clock to the advertised speed, binning them incredibly tightly. The result is the memory will typically have poor timings, and little if any flexibility in further overclocking or tightening timings.

I used to be a fan of Corsair, but not anymore. They claim to make enthusiasts products, but unless you pay exorbitant fees for the still mediocre Dominators, you are not getting much more than budget memory with a fancy heatsink.

I highly recommend GSkill, I have had dozens upon dozens of their kits, and not a single one was anything short of excellent. The Trident X 2400 9-11-11 kit is one of the best there is.
Mushkin is also quite good.

For 2133 look for no looser than 9-11-11, and the same for 2400 (10-11-10 is also acceptable).

It will probably work because reviews at Ocaholic.ch showed them made from the same chips:

2400 MHz 8GB 1.65V Corsair Vengeance Pro: Samsung 1600 MHz 1.35V K4B4G0846B K0 512M x 8 chips

2133 MHz 4GB 1.50V Corsair Vengeance Pro: Samsung 1600 MHz 1.35V K4B4G0846B K0 512M x 8 chips

IOW if you run those modules at 1600 MHz and 1.5V, they should be 100% reliable.
