Question about PWM fans

I am currently looking on this fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835345069 its a bitfenix pro PWM so now i am wondering if its ok not to connect this on a 4pin header? I really dont have enough 4pin header on my Motherboard so what im thinking is just connect this on a Fan controller on my NZXT P630. Is this possible or maybe any suggestions?

THANKS

It will behave exactly like a 3-pin fan. There's no problem. The fourth pin is the one for the PWM signal. It will run at its max speed if you put 12V into it and there's no signal on its fourth pin.

The only thing you have to worry about is if everything will fit physically as the fan's connector is a bit wider than a 3-pin connector.

Do you think it will fit? ......png 1547k .png file

The fan header has some sort of plastic nipple and the fan's connector has parts that are in the way of that. That's how it's impossible to ever connect it the wrong way, the fourth pin will naturally end up being in the air.

I don't know if that will fit or not. It looks like it might but it's pretty cramped. biggrin.gif

Does Google help answering that? Like when searching for pictures of "4-pin fan NZXT fan controller" or something like that.

I think it should fit if there's nothing next to the fan's connector. I mean the neighboring header being left empty.
