I Need Help Overclocking My Asus Z87 ROG Maximus VI Hero and i7 4770k - Page 50

28.5, 28.5, 28.5. Not 28.3.

I don't know if anyone is using it. I'm just passing along what I was told that Prime95 28.5 properly uses the Haswell CPUs to their fullest potential while previous versions DON'T. Your version is even worse because it doesn't even use the original AVX instruction set! So, your version is even useless for Sandy Bridge stability testing!

It's a computer!

wow so all the stress testing I did using prime95 26.5 was a waste of time ? well cryo999 said x264 and realbench is good enough to stress test haswell processors. I think running realbench for 2 hours is long enough. some one told me if your cpu does not fail in the first hour of a stress test that it most likely will not fail at all . what is a good website to download the latest version of x264 benchmark ?

Yes, I do with 1344L fft. It doesn't run too hot and is quick to catch instabilities.

BTW twocables, 28.5 is only a minor update to 28.3. Any 28.x prime 95 will stress with the new AVX2 and FMA3 Haswell instructions.

BTW one thing you have to watch out for if you are using adaptive or offset voltages. Running a stress application that uses any AVX instructions will boost your voltage beyond what you had set it to. Some CPUs up to 0.1V. With mine it is only about .03V.
So you may get more volts than you expected. If you use manual or "override" voltage then you won't encounter this issue.

I see you have the same cpu and motherboard I have . what do you have your i7 overclocked to and what are your temperatures like when you run x264 for 3 hours ? and where is a good safe website to download x264 from ?

I am at 4.3 GHz 24x7 and my temps on x264 reach around 64c averaged across cores about 67c peak on a core. Ambient is 24c.
I am air cooled.

I'm inclined to go with what Cryo999 says. Also, if it was a Haswell overclocking expert who said that 2 hours is enough, then I would believe it. Until then though, I don't know if it's true or if it's false.

2 hours is not enough on realbench or x264. It is a statistical game. The longer you run without incident the better. Some stress tests are not that stressful and take longer.
