crysis2,crysis3,battlefield 4,battlefield3,and many other games use more than 4cores.what makes the i7 perform better than the i5 is the quantity of extra thread...and saying it wont happen is so old like the people that said that a dual core e8400 was better choice than a q8400 when now a dual core is a bottleneck in every new game

Plus the xeon is 150usd maybe your mobo cant be compatible but always you can try and get the benefit of more threads

Ivy-E will generally clock about 10% higher than a good D0 Bloomfield and will be 10-20% faster at the same clock speeds, depending on task.

Still, if you can get your 920 to 4GHz+, I probably wouldn't bother with an upgrade unless you get more cores out of it.

I dont mean it wont happen, that its gonna be a good ways off. Theyre just now tapping 4 cores. Why not perfect using 4 cores and not be like amd and just keep adding cores.

Well I just installed an H80 so I could fit my tall dominators and guess I forgot to read that my mobo doesnt support 2000mhz ram. Silly me. Ive had hell trying to hit 4gz before. I know my mobo is capable and Im sure the cpu can too. Im wondering if its my ram. I had such great luck with the same kind on my old 775 system so I went with it with the 1366.

Its a 6gb 1600 kit Ballistix tracers.

Not the shovel maker's job to force people to dig holes any particular way.

The integration and synergy of multi-core processors, even those with far more than four cores, has been mature for quite some time, and there are many uses for such parts.

The memory should not be holding you back, since you can run it at whatever it's most comfortable at, and LGA-1366 allows the IMC/uncore to be adjusted independently of core speed.

Pretty sure it has a memory multiplier that is multiplied to the BCLK to get memory running speed.

So you could do a 191bclk with turbo on so that 191x21.
So you could run the memeroy at x6 to get 1146 or x8 to get 1528. 1333 ram can do x8 easy.

When i ran x58, i did 191x21 for a 4ghz overclock. With 8x mem multiplyer to get 1528 ram speed from stock 1333 using stock volts.

All i did was add +40mv to the cpu.

Man I've tried about everything to hit 4ghz. I'm at 3.8ghz with +40mv and ram at 1523mhz. I'm actually scoring around 500 points lower on 3dmark firestorm now. LOL

I've gone high on voltage, different ram speeds, timings, etc, etc. Even followed this guide here --

https://forum.xcpus.com/f87/foxconn-blood-rage-overclocking-guide-16727.html

I have a D0 920. Default voltage in the bios shows 1.29xxx which may be high since I've seen 1.23 shows on the guys pic. I don't know. I've seen old thread with people hitting 4.6ghz with hardly any problems.

I was at 4ghz with my ram way down to 1200mhz and it booted into windows but froze up when I tried to start 3dmark.

Since when does multiple weak cores outperform much stronger less cores? Theres barely any differance running 1 high end card between a i5 4670k and a i7 49xx or what ever in 1080p in majority of games that support many threads. How ever running 2 or more high en cards, thats another thingy.

since the games support more than 4 cores..i.e fx 8320 vs i5 4670k in Crysis3 or BF4
post #19 of 68
And yet the i5 4670k perform better than fx 8 cores in bf4...says it all.

My suggestion is to make a side grade to a Xeon, I made the jump from a 950 to a 5650 and am loving the new life my 1366 is showing. Linky to a discussion on its merits.
