Also would a e8400 cpu be better or one of the quads for this me or new set up all together

Well if you can get a cheap q6600/q8300/8400/q9300/9400 woukd be MUCH better and you could put a hd 7870/r9 270x but you will need a 400w psu...

A 750ti can fit on any psu since its power consumption is roughly 60/75w but you will need a quad core

also there is a mod for socket 775 that let you use xeon lga771 on your mobo and these xeons are 25/35usd and are equivalent of core 2 quads

Yeah the whole system is pretty old, best you upgrade the motherboard and cpu and definitely the power supply.

I'm going to build a new rig this summer. I'm just looking to get a little more from this set up. I already have ram and cpu for new rig.

Best to save your monies for a new cpu/mainboard. Maybe some nice member will give you an older card they have laying around, gathering dust, to get you by in the meantime.

Then when you have your budget for a new setup, I'm sure the fine members here at OCN will help you build the very best possible system for the amount of money you have available.

Cheers!
