Advice on $800 gaming pc build - Page 2

The FX6300 has 2 cores each in 3 modules while the one you proposed has 2/2. Since gaming is a multithreaded(multi-core utilizing) application, the FX 6300 build will be better.

Most games are not very well multithreaded. Only the higher end games like BF3/4 will benefit from more threads. In many cases you will get worse performance on the 6300 than on an i3/i5 just because of how much the FX gimps your single thread performance. The i5 actually is way ahead of the FX-6300, it even pushes ahead of the FX-8350 in many cases, with that motherboard you would not have too much trouble getting 4.5GHz. IMO the FX lineup is pretty much obsolete already, with the only exception being if you want to do a lot of video encoding, etc...

The capstone is just over 10 USD more, and there's nothing outstandingly bad about the XFX one, really up to the OP in the end, IMO either is a good option.

Yeah I know. But that APU is really a bad way to go. And as an RTS player, i5s are the holy grails of gaming. But our budget will always overtake us.

You can easily put an i5 in anything under 900USD... And most old engined games will run better on an i3 than a 6300...

mdocod puts it really well with his implementations. A rig capable of OCing an FX83xx will cost around the same as a cheap, overclockable i5 rig... And the i5 will definitely outperform it in most games.

At the price of an i3 and B85 motherboard, you are looking at the same cost as an overclockable FX6300 rig. Which will perform around the same, in some cases a bit less, when playing games, for video encoding/games like BF4, you will see the 6300 pull ahead, but IMO the i3 is the better option.

I can't find a link for it, so I'm assuming it's is made by them. Should I go for the 'Kingston Blu' Kaidom recommended?

That memory is pretty crappy. Grab a kit of G. Skill, it's like 2 bucks and you get 1600MHz@1.5v.

But prices are very different across countries, especially here in India. An i5 4670K should cost around 60X200 Rupees which is Rs.12,000. But the price here is Rs.16,000+ sometimes.

And in Australia, which is where I live, everything is a lot more expensive than in America, hence the quality of the computer parts

Then you should link where you're buying from so everyone can recommend the best that is currently available to you.
