Anyway, depends on the i5, there are a lot more of those low-end i5s than high-end unlocked ones. Some of them aren't much faster than that Athlon either, I think an i5 4430 is some 20-25% faster so they can be pretty much equal when overclocking the Athlon. Some low-end Ivy and Sandy i5s are even slower, I wouldn't be surprised if an overclocked 760K were to outperform them.

I am talking current processors here. And i don't think its true anyway. No evidence is apparent.

No one said anything about any 8 core fx cpu, I said the fx brand cpu is coming to the fm2+ but it sounds like you twist what other people say and spit bs to everyone claiming my words are different then what was said by me. So yes I have proven FX cpu's are indeed coming to the FM2+ socked motherboards with links and cpuz shots yet you continue to be in denial. You ever heard of HSA or Mantle?? Sorry pal to burst your bubble but when any amd starting after fx4350 through amd 7850K is overclocked using mantle will straight up rape any core i5 period. you show me some benchies that you might think intel destroys say a 760K and I will run the same benchies and prove you wrong. Just because some dumb intel fan boys say its true doesnt make it true. The only thing intel has going for them is single thread performance but that is all about to change and is nothing but a hyped up and well paid for advertisement scheme. as for amd vs intel using multi thread that is just a joke and no intel cpu can keep up point blank unless you are willing to spend 300-900 for core i7 LOL what a bunch of cash gouging bs.. I am no fan boy, I just happen to have both intel and amd rigs and know the trueth about what is what and you are all being lied to straight up..
To prove my point look at the lowest end cpu's on both ends AMD 5350 vs. intels Celeron J1900 clock for clock amd is almost twice the speed and strength of intels offerings.
Damn thats gotta hurt and just wait till amd applies this tech to the bigger core parts mainly FX cpu's coming in 2nd half of 2014 and intel starts to look like they have nothing up there sleeves but the same old tick for tock crap that they have had around since the core i7 920 days.
Dont take my word for it guys here is the link to the review done by anandtech which this site is all about intel fanboy-ism http://www.anandtech.com/show/7933/the-desktop-kabini-review-part-1-athlon-5350-am1/4 Looks like AMD is about to pull one hell of a rabbit out of there hat and catch intel with there pants down..

It's an OEM unit, a re-branded Athlon, not a true performance processor, and it does have on-board graphics from what I've heard. AMD performance-class FX processors are dead, we might see performance units with Excavator but I highly doubt it unless AMD somehow beefs up their cores to compete with Intel without having to resort to shipping the units with an LN2 as stock cooling (as I said, highly doubt it). The Haswell i5 still kills AMD processors even with Mantle, maybe not the 8350s in BF4 but the rest are eating dust. Mantle also works on any CPU, which includes that i5.

As for Kabini you linked, I'm about to post a set of benchmarks on the 8320 that show how clock-for-clock, a Kabini core is around 5-15% slower than a Vishera core, depending on the benchmark, with only win for Kabini being encryption. So yeah, that rabbit sucks, maybe put it back in the hat?

Oh, and in case you wish to scream fanboy at me, please, feel free to check my sig - I run all AMD. wink.gif

I need some help deciding what to get. My main gaming PC (which is LGA775) broke and needs the CPU and RAM to be replaced. Would going with the FM2+ platform and getting the 760k be a smart decision until ddr4 becomes mainstream, or should I just get new ddr2 ram, X5460 and keep the 775 platform until intel skylake comes out? I currently just play CSGO and waiting for WoW: WOD to be released sometime in the fall.

I am all AMD too. But facts are facts. All evidence points to Intel being ahead in most, if not all measures of performance. But you do pay for it. That doesn't mean AMD is not making good, solid offerings for a bit less money. The day AMD's processors outperform the offerings from Intel you will see AMD price their products accordingly. To think a 760K at $89 outperforms a $209 I5 4670K is engaging in a bit of fantasy when an 8350 isn't even totally competitive.

Dont know what to tell you.. as the X5460 is a pretty good cpu specially if you buy the tape mod and run it on a socket 775 x58 motherboard. I remember having a qx9650 overclocked to 4.5Ghz and they still keep up pretty darn good these days but are starting to show there age... I see most people are getting 4.5-5Ghz with x5460 on x58 mobo's. So - Whats your budget like?? The AMD 760K is an amazing cpu for cheap cheap.. I have built hundreds of systems with them and have never seen one not be able to hit 4.8-5.2GHz. Also should ask what Gpu are you running?? If you can wait like another month I hear that the new Pentium K or unlocked version will be coming out and should be very affordable as well. is this something you need to buy right this second?? If so 760K is a great choice.. What ever you do stay far away from AM3+ as it is a completely dead platform with no upgrade future at all.

Hope that helps..thumb.gif
Don't count on any FX chips coming to FM2+. You can upgrade later on to Kaveri and possibly Kaveri's successor, but AMD has said nothing about moving FX chips to FM2+, or even when the next FX chips might come out. They've said there will be another FX, but their own roadmaps have nothing beyond Vishera in that market segment through 2015. The next FX might not appear until the AMD K12 microarchitecture shows up sometime after Excavator. That's at least 2016, and more likely 2017.

I'd like for AMD to create an "FX platform" that allows the use of two HSA-enabled APU's on one motherboard, for a total of eight HSA cores, double the compute ability of the iGPU, and Crossifre the iGPU's. But that would require some changes in the design of the current APU's.

It can beat some of the older i5's in certain circumstances. It will not beat any desktop i5 from the Sandy Bridge series or later. However, an overclocked 760K is good enough for a middling gaming rig when paired with a strong video card.
