*ISN7 = current sense for GPU phase #7... the overall resistance should measure the same as the other ISN resistors and phases to "load balance" the current across the active phases.
- Is it essential = NO
- Will GPU run and OC just fine without proper resistance.. = YES .. its got enough phases to push the GPU.. you could remove the resistor completely, disabling the power phase and the GPU would likely still OC just fine.
- Would you notice a difference in GPU behavior? = NO
*You say OCP did "nothing for you"... please explain. Did you even clock the card high enough to enter 'OCP range' to begin with...?
*Switching Freq mod does nothing by itself. I discourage people from performing this mod if they dont properly understand what they are modding - which is the output rate of the power phases... this is only for 'frequency tuning' the power phases for proper output.. given the core speed and voltage demands. This mod requires testing to understand how to set for best performance.
sounds like you've put it through the paces thus far then
While these GPU's dont like -0 ... if you bench you've got a worthy candidate for some 6950 records paired with the right CPU.. 1575mem is nice, and core will fly once temps can be kept in check. I've had mine Vantage stable at 1080mhz on water, with load temps in the mid 40c range. The power phases will scream for mercy though..as the speed brings big time consumption.
I think most efforts to get a reliable 1ghz clock out of these cores has been partial due to driver optimizations that make the cores more efficient at lower clocks. Newer drivers make my GPU much hotter and score better on newer and more intensive benchmarks..so dont get so discouraged!
