Not entirely true.

Things like trees and other foliage have been procedurally generated in many games for a long time. It's also been used for AI and textures in some fairly big name titles.

My thoughts too. The size is pretty cool, but I'm not sure how that helps a "game" full of surface meshes, textures, and sounds.
There have been lots of procedural type games from early 2000's which this demo looked quite similar to.

Tbf "OpenGL is the future" flies in the face of all available evidence.

I cannot name a single "AAA" game released in the last few years that used OpenGL over DX, in fact I can't even think of any mid-level games. Don't get me wrong, it's probably got a lot of stuff going for it, but it doesn't seem that any developers care enough to add support for it.
