How is my 4770k OC and temp?

Thread Starter
I've been able to OC it to 4.4ghz at 1.249v on an 8hour Prime test, with peak temp of 94c and avg of 80-84c.

if they work, they work, but i wouldn't run those temps 24/7 setup.
Temps aren't bad for a budget cooler, but make sure your chip stays in the 80s during max load (regular usage). Even though the max temp of the cores is 105C, it doesn't mean you should be nearing that temp if you want to keep your CPU running strong for a long time.

You should consider delidding, most people see an 8~20C drop. I experienced about a 10~15C drop on my cores after delidding my 3570K.

94c is hot but prime runs cpu at 100% which should hardly ever happen under even intense gaming sessions.
Still, 94c is too hot for my liking. Can you dial back your voltage a bit or will it mess with your 4.4 oc?

the quality of your result very much depends on what settings you ran on Prime95. There is a Haswell Overclocking Thread on this forum which gives you information on much better/precise tests for your overclock attempt.

That was the lowest stable voltage I could manage. And sorry the Prime test was Small FFT for 8hours.

I'd say that's okay for a Prime95 temp as your temperatures will hardly ever reach that in real world usage. Prime95 is pretty much the worst case scenario. I'd probably try to shave a few degrees off by checking case airflow etc but as long as it's around 75C or less in things like games it will be fine smile.gif

IMO different people have different views on acceptable temperatures and for me I'd want to keep it under 70C in normal usage.

Thanks for the replies guys. Here's a screen, this is pretty much as high as it'll go with a few spikes. I have a 2 year protection plan with Microcenter on the CPU so why not push it right? lol. Worst case scenario I replace it or upgrade down the road.

I'd just worry about temps during a normal everyday workload. If you're under 80C during those workloads then you should be fine. Also what version of Prime95 are you using? The beta versions (current is 28.5), which use AVX2 run significantly hotter than the latest stable build.
