PC won't turn on

Thread Starter
The other day my power supply blew up blue sparks and all today. Hoping nothing else has gone either. I borrowed a power supply from my mate and have installed it check all the connections but it just won't start. Have tried using a screw driver on start it on the motherboard but to no avail. The green light is lit up on the motherboard but nothing I try will make it boot. I did just swap old supply out and put new one in without unplugging anything. Any tips?

Motherboard is a Asus M5A78l-M LX

Not all modular PSU connectors are the same if the PSU is modular. IF they are different brands even though the cables might plug in on the PSU side it does not mean they are wired the same.

You fried something. Most likely the motherboard or CPU. You're going to have to use process of elimination to find out which part that power supply took with it. Which power supply was it?

Not modular was a crappy thermal take one that came with it. Would it be good to pull it all apart and put it all back together?

If you're referring to the PSU, never take one apart, it instaly voids the warrenty, and there's likely nothing you can do without electrical circuitry knowledge to fix it anyway.

Does the PSU fan spin when you attempt to boot? Does the CPU fan spin or twitch (spin for a fraction of a second then stop) when attempting to turn it on?

The PSU I have in there now works fine but no I can't get anything to start push the power button nothing. I meant should I take it all apart and start fresh? Before the power supply went it was working fine all I did was unplug everything Take the old PSU out. Popped the new one in and plugged it all up and now nothing.

That could mean one of two things,
1) the new psu isn't supplying enough power
or
2) you fried your 270X.
