[GS] - Can you Build a Gaming PC on a Console Budget

here's no debating that a souped-up gaming PC will outperform an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 any day of the week, but it'll also cost you a lot more at checkout. However, what about a gaming PC that isn't top of the line, say, one that was built for $550?

Yep you can build a very good gaming PC for around $500 that easily beats out all the consoles. AMD is the way to go for this. I know someone who recently built an AMD FX-6300 rig (using an MSI G43 I'm pretty sure) with a GTX 650 Ti for about $500. I'm about to build a similar rig: same motherboard and CPU, but with a GTX 750, and it comes out to right around $500 without using ebay or open box or used stuff. Same price as the XBOX One, yet you get all of the benefits of PC including a better game selection (and plenty of amazing free games to start you off like Underhell, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Lost Alpha, No More Room in Hell, and Black Mesa).

I dislike that the AMD build uses Ebay for the OS
I kinda dislike the CPU/Mobo/Case/PSU that the Intel uses....

Get all this in a case that I can have on my TV stand and look good with a wireless xbox 360 controller and I'd be happy. biggrin.gif

AMD build cheats a bit with an ebay OS and an open-box video card, but is a decent enough build.

Intel build is just terrible in general.

Furthermore even though Im a PC guy i cant help but feel like these console pc builds are missing a TON of console features (and vice versa) They both do different jobs.

So what do you do with your large ugly cheap square box? Stream Netflix, iplayer, Amazon prime etc.. from the couch? Sure you can swap between three separate applications or try fudge an xbmc build to do it but that's lame and buggy. So you want to play the exact same games on better settings? Well that's not replacing a console either because the console has exclusives, weirdy indie games just the same and are guaranteed to work with the hardware.

PC's are completely out classed in the GUI stakes and integration, there forte is for taking a game and making it better through power, on a UHD monitor with Mods ... which is exactly what these console beaters CANT do, because there not powerful enough.

there just lame PC's at that level and unless you plan to do actual work or have a specific requirement (music setup, server) then just get a console.

The AMD build wasdescent. That Intel one was fairly thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif . PC will almost always win this little battle in price vs performance and sheer options.

as I said it depends. The box you build wont just plug into the tv and work from a controller. Perhaps with SteamOS in future it might.

It's always hard to beat a console price because they usually sell at cost or less and make money on service and contracts. Kinda like paying for cheap bucket seats in a sports game. They make more by filling the stands more than they do selling the seats as a whole.
