My Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 is very hot!

Thread Starter
I have a Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 Motherboard and i have been idle for about 3 hrs not doing any gaming just surfing the web and looking at overclock.net. I was curiour how warm my heatsinks on my MOBO got while idle so i touched the southbridge heatsink with my fingers. i could only hold it on there a few seconds and it actually hurt. i have a fx-6300 overclocked to 4 ghz but its on auto so it never really goes to 4 ghz unless it needs too, it usually sticks around 1.6ghz when im on the internet. what do you think i should do? ive been thinking i should just buy a new MOBO because i want to overclock my chip a little more but how would i get rid of my old MOBO? i dont just want to waste money that i paid for the LE.

Thats not the only thing on that board that is getting very hot. The vrm section doesnt have any heatsinks, so that will limit your overclock a lot. You could put some fans on the southbridge and the vrms and on the back of the mobo which will help a bit. But that board wasnt designed/sold to be a super overclocker.

Check how high temps do you get on the SB using hwmonitor. My CHIVF can have a really hot radiator but the NB is barely going over 50°C.
As said above get some radiators for the Vrm's. And remember never set anything on auto. Motherboard can set some uber-high volts that can do some damage.
