I wouldn't trust what they would use to cut it with.

Alcohol is a SOLUTION, this powder has to be mixed with water. You smoke it, you burn it. You snort it you will cough.

Kinda makes sense since alcohol is a poison and will force your body to extract the water from your cells in order to flush the toxin out through your urine, but of course that's wrong.

Actually it has a much more complicated answer, of course:
Quote:
Alcohol causes dehydration because it inhibits a hormone called anti-diuretic hormone (ADH.) This hormone has a constant level in the body and keeps you from peeing out all of the water in your body. When you drink alcohol, the level of this hormone becomes low and you pee more. While this happens, you are also losing salt. One alcoholic drink can result in up to a pint of urine production. This effect becomes less as you drink more. But, if you drink 15 drinks in a night, you can end up well over two liters dehydrated.
Quote:
“Alcohol is a diuretic,” says Professor Oliver James, head of clinical medical sciences at Newcastle University. “It acts on the kidneys to make you pee out much more than you take in – which is why you need to go to the toilet so often when you drink.” In fact for every 1g of alcohol drunk, urine excretion increases by 10ml.

You either get a buzz off a glass of (real) whiskey, or you're drinking it to feel normal, (or doing it wrong). There is the slight possibility that you've got Irish dock worker blood, as myself, but doubt it.

I'm all for this!

The article is a joke. You probably found the first one that said: "alcohol hydrate" and posted it trying to prove your subjective point of view.
Actually the second page, the article the other member posted was within the top 3 of dehydration redface.gif

The science makes no distinction, only the editorial staff of abc.au. If you had read the entire article, you'd have noticed that.
It isn't in the FDA's jurisdiction. The TTB is the governing body, and they already approved the product (it is the patent and packaging that are pending. The initial packaging has been removed from consideration by Palcohol voluntarily).

I dont pretend to know what I know what I am talking about smile.gif Just found an article that states differently

I said sipping not gulping it down in one go smil3dbd4e4c2e742.gif But no, a single finger of 40% aint going to do anything to me even if I drank it in one gulp. A generous double on the other hand, yeah that would register as a buzz if I chugged it down.

That reminds me. My glass is empty. Better pour another one tongue.gif

Serious question for Mr Expert:

Does this compare to legacy beer? Or is it more of an "instant coffee vs the real thing" kind of deal?

This powdered alcohol is an entirely different animal. It's mostly just a really interesting chemically stabilized form of ethanol alcohol that they can male water soluble with some flavorings. Simply put, beer is a grain based liquid that's flavored with the addition of oily/resinous buds from Hops plants and then fermented. The end result has alcohol as a byproduct of fermentation and is consumed as is. The only thing similar about these two things is the fact that ethanol alcohol is in them and they're intended to be consumed. Otherwise, completely different.
