Oily Goop

Thread Starter
I was cleaning out my PC today when I noticed this oily crud on my GPU's. I originally though it was my water cooling but because it was in the same exact location on my 2nd card, I do not think that is it. Anyone have any ideas where this oil comes from?

Wth. This is the 3rd thread in the past week of time that I've seen this. One of the people who responded said  that this seems to be normal, unfortunately.

I would hazard a guess that since it matches on both cards, it's probably a component of the stock thermal grease breaking down and creeping across the cooling plate. I'd imagine you'll find more of it should you take the reference cooler apart and see where the dust sticks.

ill also hazard a guess i dont know the card very well since i dont own one but ive noticed it before on some cards and what it seemed to be with the cards ive owned that done it is the heat in specific spot seems to make the oils in the paint or powder coating bleed out because as soon as i cleaned it off and put a fan near that air to keep it cool its never done it again. But, it has usually been on cards with a cheaply done coating.
