Using 3/8 ID 5/8 OD tubing on 7/16 ID 5/8 OD compression fittings.

Thread Starter
I have searched around and unfortunately I was not able to find any answers for this specific combination.

Would it be fine/possible to use 3/8 ID 5/8 OD tubing over 7/16 ID 5/8 OD compression fittings? Looked at my loop today and found algae buildup in my res.. Although I have a killcoil inside it still grew, so I'm thinking that there is some algae hiding inside my tubing so I'm thinking about just changing my tubing all together and cleaning my blocks/rads. Unfortunately, only 3/8 ID 5/8 OD or 1/2 ID 3/4 OD are easily available to me.

Thanks.

In general ... no, not really. The two tubes have the same outer diameter but very different wall thickness. That will mean some tube will end up way too wide for the compression collar once it is stretched over the wider barb.

If the tube was really super soft it might Compress enough but to me that would mean substandard tubing

If that is really the only tubing that oyu have available, you could use the compressions like it was a barb. You probably wouldn't be able to the the compression ring over the thick tubing, but a clamp instead would stop give you the same effect.

3/8 tube is tight on a 3/8 fitting, using a 3/8 ID tube on a 7/16 fitting is going to be even tighter. Would it cause the tubing to split? IDK but wouldn't chance it. Get the right diameter tubing.
