OCing FX8350 and HD 7870 together issues - Page 4

I'm sorry guys, but the PSU is not the culprit. It's a 600-watt PSU running a rather power hungry CPU and a rather power EFFICIENT GPU. Combined, they probably use about 400-watts total, which is well below the theoretical limit of that PSU. I've got a "miserly" Corsair TX-650 that runs an FX 8320 @ 4.7Ghz and an overclocked GTX 780. I know for a fact that my system uses way more than 50-watts more than his, and my PSU is rock solid. I believe they are both made by CWT as well. If the PSU is not able to handle the load, it may be faulty.

Back on topic, If they are each stable by themselves but unstable when you overclock them both, that points to a FSB issue. Have you tried reducing the FSB to 200mhz and only overclocking by increasing the multiplier to 23?

The board is good, not great but a solid board. I have a lot of air moving over the VRMs, they haven't gotten too hot. The title of that thread is the worst part, the replies agree it is an OK MoBo.

I haven't tried that recently, I will though. GPU aside, Increasing the FSB does a lot for overall system and CPU speed (at least in PerformanceTest 8.0 scores) So I like running the increased FSB. But I will try.

I think in the end, running the CPU at 220x21 (4620) and the GPU at 1200/1200 (stock is 1000/1200) would be the best balance. I had it running stable in that config. I only had problem when I tried increasing the VC mem speed with the CPU @ 4620. I never increased the VC voltage beyond 1200 (stock is 1169) either, that might be all that is needed.

That is correct. However, you can also increase the northbridge frequency. I think stock is 2200mhz. If you could increase it to 2600mhz, that would offset most losses by setting your FSB back to 200mhz.

Bear in mind that the NB core voltage might have to be increased, so heat output would be higher.

That's the socket temp anf the Package which you cut off is the core temp of the CPU itself. and I think you'll want to retry that IBT on very high I think is the standard. I typically use P95 blend so not as familiar with the IBT. If that is stable you do have a golden chip that's for sure, my 8350 requires 1.476v to stabilize at 4.64G but my 9370 only needs 1.428v for 4.8 so these things really are all over the map.
Nice to see you figured out the LLC, it really does help to stabilize the voltage and the system. Have you tried you GFX card yet to see if that's working now??

That's kind of a funky 12 volt reading in the SS above. 7 volts, probably a misread . Have you ever ran OCCT and looked at the temp and voltage charts it produces?

TMPIN2 is always identical to the FX-8350 temp, so I didn't bother to show it. I'll try V High, but High and an otherwise stable machine is good enough for me. I have the GFX card at 1100/1200 currently. I will play with that more later.

No I haven't. I never really pay attention to those other than VCore. Only the top 2 seem to be what they should be, the rest are off by about 30-40%. I can't imagine the computer would boot if those were correct readings.
