I thought that with higher wattage PSUs you would have less load which would have it run more efficiently...also the monitor is going to be run through displayport 1.2.

The R9 290x would be better because of OpenCL performance right? Or is there some other reason?

Thats a myth

http://www.overclock.net/t/711542/on-efficiency

Too much wattage and the efficiency will go down

Oh ... Is there any benefit going to 80plus platinum over gold? Or is that just marketing?

yes opencl plus the r9 290x has 3 free games (if you get the xfx model ,it brings 3 games plus a copy of bf4 with registration)
Check benchmarks with luxrender, also you can use mantle

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-290x-hawaii-review,3650-34.html

Also for 4k you will need more than 3gb vram if you want to max out damanding games and a futureproof in vram

Check this bronze vs platinium
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7474/analyzing-power-use-80-plus-bronze-vs-platinum
Remember that bronze should be 82-85-82 and platinium 90-92-89 at 20%-50%-100% load

And the gold rating is 87-90-87 in efficie.cy as you can see the edge between the last two isnt too high to have a big difference based on the thread above

To be honest I prefer nvidia over AMD... It's not that I think AMD is cheap or bad compared to nvidia just a personal preference. But if vram Is important for 4K then wouldn't the titan be optimal?

yes, maybe in the future but the difference is 400usd more for 2gb more vram and same performance(same power consumption) so i dont know if you would want 400usd more for that

Yeah the pricing is an issue... The 780Ti has the same chip but I'm guessing the vram will have a significant impact... I didn't really plan on gaming in 4K just normal computer usage as well as adobe premiere

For 2560x1440 3gb would be enough if you dont use more than 4 or 8 xmsaa with ultra details

But this will deppend on the game for example dirt or a rrs game wont be as demanding as bf4 o crysis3 vram wise

Would there be any effect in premier or after effects? The resolution will probably be 3440x1440
