Yes that's true. But it's not the CPU related stuff that needs to run at a higher fps. CPU related "stuff" runs at fixed speeds anyway, such as the in-game physics. We only see the CPU bottleneck because the GPU allows us to reach fps higher than what's possible on the CPU side due to current programming techniques and optimizations due to the absence of low level access and effective multi threaded optimization, resulting in overhead per call back. Thus, reducing GPU usage once overhead is reached.

The power limit is related to the tdp/power consumption limit not performance...just to clarify

I purely used the Power Limit % slider to ''underclock'' my Gpu.
My GPU Speeds are fixxed because of my own edited bios, that wont allow setting lower clocks manually.

By setting a lower Power limit i basicly make the GPU underperform, like it is a Slower GPU.

When tested with this ''Slower GPU'' my CPU usage is way lower, then using my GPU unthrottled.

Conclusion of my test: With less GPU power available in a system, the CPU Usage will fall out lower then the same system with a more powerfull GPU, running the same game at a higher FPS.

Remember guys, we were talking about a Faster GPU not making the CPU run at a higher usage.

Well try play Battlefield 4 on a HD6850, then a 290x, you tell me wich you think runs at a higher CPU Usage?

I think he was just trying to reduce the power in order to reduce the GPU performance by throttling the card.

CPU usage will go up. As your aspect ratio gets wider, more things are in your view-port. This gain is not free.

7680x1080 will use more CPU usage than 3840x2160 (Both are the same amount of pixels)

With a wider aspect ratio, you see extra things. Take a look at this image, I made it as an example for someone else but it fits well enough for this post so I'm re-using it.

This is a four monitor resolution. Four 1080p screens. With each shade of darkness, add on another screen. Center is 1920x1080, first shade is 3840x1080, etc.

With two monitors, you see a crowd of "things" to the left. In this case those extra things are dead NPCs, Players, and Spell Effects. With 16:9, these aren't rendered and are off-screen. The CPU doesn't have to process and send that info to the GPU with one monitor but with two, it's sent. That's where the extra CPU usage comes from.

While the CPU usage definitely increases, it's probably not a big deal worth worrying about. The load that is put on the GPU makes it more of an issue to worry about your GPU than the CPU but to say the CPU is unaffected is just plain wrong.

Also keep in mind that with a wider aspect ratio, your GPU also has to deal with the extra things to render. A higher FPS at 3840x2160 than 7680x1080 is not just a sign the CPU has a lower load, they both will. In order to measure the difference with aspect ratios you'll need to make sure you have an overkill GPU setup and cap your FPS to prevent the CPU from running at a full load on both.
